Brakes + Flashy Rear Fog Light

  1.8 Civic EX
For some god knows reason, whenever I press the brake pedal the rear fog dash light flashes on, and sometimes stays on all the while my foot is on the brake.

I've checked the lights when the brake pedal is pressed and the fogs don't light up.

All other lights etc work as they should.

Assuming dodgy wireing in one of the light clusters. Anyone come across this before?

Ive had this before, think water was getting into one of the rear clusters. Check/Unblock the drain holes and around the seal on your boot, can get leaves/grime build up here.
Check under and behind your boot carpet for signs of damp etc.

Searchysearch. Every single car does this. :rasp:

Driver side rear cluster will have some corrosion on the pins in the connector. Take the cluster out, give it a good clean up, make sure there is no 'fuzz' built up on the pins/connectors and plug it all back in again.

Done this and it didn't work! I used WD40 - was that an error? Used a toothbrush to clean the connections on the plug from the car and the connectors on the cluster. There's no damp in the boot area either!

Nothing to suggest a dodgy alternator? Or do I need to clean clean clean them even more. They don't look grimey though.

You need to clean them up with something abrasive... not a toothbrush! Use a small flathead screwdriver or something. WD-40 wasn't the best idea, make sure you dry the connectors well with paper towel etc. Make sure all the pins have good contact with the connector block - if there's no corrosion to be seen then this is the most likely cause of the malfunction. GENTLY bend the pins up to close the gaps, and plug back in and test.

Have this too, gave them a mild clean with an abrasive but never thought to tighten the pins, will give it a go and report
