I've got Brembo Max Disks and EBC greenstuff pads, everything works fine untill i start to get heat into the the brakes and work them hard then they vibrate, and make a horrid droning type noise, any ideas?

Has your car had a hard life/lots of track use?

What's the mileage?

I wear out the mounting bushes on front calipers every 40-45,000 miles - which allows the smallest amount of movement of the caplier when everything's hot, giving a rumbling noise which sounds like what you're getting?

Well in the 20k i've had it it's been round the ring and i'd say i drive it hard.
It's now on 64k How much as these bushes? Where are they?

Exchange calipers were the solution for me.

Something like £45 a side from Renault - although I've always managed to find myself a low mileage set from someone on here who's upgrading.

Oh great, another problem, hmm might just try a new set of pads.

It's not a problem as such...more of an irritant that costs £100 to put right!

The brakes still work, and stop, they just sound like they're about to self destruct when while they do it.

mounting bushes? You were conned if you changed your calipers due to this.

The caliper bolts directly to the hub and will not move, do you mean caliper sliders?

I had the same problem on my Escort, when I was using Tarox grooved/drilled discs & EBC Greenstuff pads.

I changed the pads for some Tarox pads and once they were gone, normal ferodo pads and the problem never came back.

I bet it is the pads.

Hmmm don't really want to go spend £91 on some Ferodo pads. Might just get Renault ones for £45.

I would say the pads or shims aswell, its more likely to be aliens living in the struts than bushes anyway.

Gte to halfords for some cheap arse pads, sure i paid less than 20 notes for some and were good aswell

I don't believe in buying cheap things, always costs more in the long run.

You should be able to get normal road Ferodo or Tarox pads for around £40.

I would just pop down GSF and give it ago.

It's something like that.

I'm not technical, Mike at Rentech does all that for me.

What I do know is that the grumbling noise I get from my brakes after 40-45k miles is cured by fitting a new or low mileage replacement set of calipers.

Yes he means the slides which the caliper guide pin screws into, i'm yet to take a set to pieces that hasn't got play in at least one of the slides. And for some reason one is usually fine and the other is slack as fook, the slide kit is £36 a side from renault (last time I checked) so a new caliper probably isn't that bad an idea tbh.
