brakes on 172 mk1

  Fiesta ST Stage 3

What would be the best to do on changing the brakes on my mk 1 172.

Change pads all round for hi performance ones or change just front disc and pads to hi performance ones as rear ones are fairley new ???????

you can leave the rear pads.

But get new discs and pads to bed in together, especially if they are performance items.

how about the ones with groovs are they any good. Does the brake changes muck up your insurance or is it only power mods that does that ?

PS is it true that the front brakes do 90 % of the braking on a 172 as they are huge at 288 mm the size of dinner plates ?

no, not 90%, more along the lines of 2/3s.

Id inform the insurance company.

And from personal experience, grooves, holes etc etc are a useles performance aid and serve no benefit for the massive extra cost you pay.

Had some e.b.c brakes disc/pads all round on my old 206 gti ( good car but a joke compared to the old 172 ) found that they were very good and very sharp with 0 brake fade but at a cost of £ 680 toooooooo much money .

i get my black diamond grooved and drilled put on tomoz plus kelver pads for my 172 mk1 renault are putting them on for me, they also doing my major service for me.

the discs and pads are suppossed to be really good.

braking is normally around 60% fronts and 40% rears but with new abs systems the set rule for distribution front/rear isnt really applicable anymore on some vehicles.
