Brakes

hi my 2004 1.4 clio has just topped 40,000 miles and i have started to hear squeaking noises from the brakes when i brake to a stop...not sure if the previous owner had pads replaced...but on average how often would a set of pads or discs need replacing? could it be the hammerite i have just applied to the calipers the weekend just gone?

help appreciated

Well you could have a look see at the pads, but if you hammerited it all the other week, i'm sure you would have noticed the pads.
Copper grease is the key, as the pads and calipers maybe dry.
If unsure take it to a garage and ask to apply copper grease to the front brakes.
