Brakes

Hi,

Did the Donnington Track day yesterday and now my brakes are f**ked! They started to go a bit spongy (brake fade I thought) so came back into the paddock. About an hour or so later decided to go out for another session but tested the brake pedal and it went to the floor. Brough it back up and tried it again and it was rock solid!
Got this mechanic guy to have a look and after pumping the pedal a few times it seemed to free up.
Didn't take the car back out but when driving it home it the pedal was squeaking (never done this before and its a Clio 182 Cup 05reg) and the brakes were still spongy.
Had a look in the light this morning and I think the pads are worn right down (not suprising really as they were standard pads). What do you think the problem is, is it just a case of buying some new pads?
If so, what would you suggest and also is there anywhere where I can get them so they arrive tomorrow?!

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance. :)

If you need some urgently, your local halfords should have some in. Just standard OEM replacements, but they'd do the job for now.

Otherwise you could try somewhere like your local GSF branch, and get some Pagid Fast road pads for £28.

Donington was quite hard on the brakes, only had a couple of moments of fade but certainly finished off my pads now.

sounds more like youve boiled the fluid and have air in the hydraulic lines now

you'll need to do a proper fluid change to sort it

Damn :(

This is gonna be expensive I bet! I will have to take it to the garage as I don't have a clue on how to do all this stuff lol!
So I am going to need new pads, and some brake fluid.

  not a clio anymore
Sounds liek youv'e suffered from both problems at the same time (I did spread my problems acrros 2 trackdays lol)
If you can't stop at low speed but okay-ish at higher speed, your pads aredead, replace asap as mentioned and check your discs too.

As for the fluid, purge and replace the fluid.
I replaces my fluid before the last trackday and it was fine (unlike my pads). Fluid cost a tenner a litre for something reasonable, 15 quid for the eazybleed kit and a couple of hours to mess around. Change the pads at the same time.

Ok, I will do that. But what pads do I get? I am desperate for them!

Id go for either mintex m1144 or pagids, both good perfromance but increased brake dust, dont buy EBC.

Also upgrade fluid to higher temp rating look at ap range, deffinately worth spending extra money for decent stuff. Braided lines help aas well.
