Broken front spring 172 Cup - common problem??

Not had the car long as its off the road while I work on it over the winter, checking brakes on the offside and noticed the front spring has snapped about 4" from the bottom. I have only driven the car gently (back from where I bought it), so had not noticed.

They are Apex 150-40511 VA springs if that means anything - is this common on these cars or with Apex springs? Which reading on here are not the best choice (fitted by previous owner).

All springs will snap eventually.

Not common but as above a certain failure in the end for all springs.

Replace as an axle pair with lowering springs. Personally I'd ditch the Apex as I think they're terrible but that's my opinion based on experience.
