Broken Top Mount

I was driving home just now and heard a knocking noise coming from the front. On further inspection i found that the rubber of the drivers side top mount had come away just leaving the metal exposed.
Am i ok to drive this until Monday afternoon until i can get the replacement part?
Can i just replace the top part or do i need to replace the baring aswell?

drove it to work this morning really steady and was fine, just got to make it until Monday morning until i can get a replacement part.

You can get the rubber mount and the metal top bearing seperately, bought both lots yesterday!

I have a spare full set of 172/182 top mounts.

Hi,

got them from a local parts place. Gsf claimed they don't do them but euro car parts have both items cheap.

how would you tell if the top bearing is fooked? is it just seeing if there is any play in them?

Hi,

not too sure really, mine on the car seemed very loose and rough but think that's normal. I think they collapse or fall out of shape on top of the strut when they go (although I'm no expert!)

we are talking about the same thing here aren't we? Its the rubber thing that you can take on and off from the top of the engine bay.

got two new top mounts with bearings for £40.

Renault wanted £18.15+VAT. not that much more but better in my pocket lol

i need new top mounts i think, i get this horrid knocking when turning and then also when i hit a bump, just one solid *bang* been told it could be the top strusts knockin on the chassis, was it any reno dealer you got these from?

yeah it was. I actually bought the full kit.

I got the top mount and nut, the bottom mount and baring. So all of number 8 in the pic below. I also got new strut to hub bolts and nuts. it came to a total of £106 and a few pence, so not the cheapest of things to do but that was for both sides

i need that too i guess, the knockin is doin my head in lol plus on full lock, when i look under the bonnet at the strut mounts, they seem to be bent :S lol and they move alot

the knocking could be the brackets on the steering rack, that was another suggestion from someone i read in another thread.

Can you post a pic of the mount?
