Whats that all about then?? Its a wireless connection, and it is superfast in comparison to what i had before. It is definately fast as fook..!!!

I've got my SPV connected to it and i downloads to that at an incredible pace.
Any ideas?

iirc your displayed connection speed is not always your actual download speed. I used to have Tiscali 1mb but when connected it always said 2.2mb for some reason

If you're refering to 12mbps that's simply the speed your LAN (wireless) is connected at and nothing at all to do with ADSL.

yeah press 'print screen' and paste it into something like Paint. Then just save it somewhere.... like your desktop

Then you upload it to somewhere like photobucket and it'll generate a URL to post on cliosport etc

Just out of interest what does the bt home hub do that any other wireless router won't do?

thought as much, pretty sure mine can do everything it says on the TV advert, bit like the AOL wirless boradband advert, it's wireless because it comes with a wireless router

Worth ringing them fella if its not running at the stated speed.

Ive got ntl, and kept getting adsl results of 0.7mbps.

Rang them and it turns out they'd connected me at the wrong speed, and id been paying too much for my service for ages!

Back up to 4 now though, *sigh of relief* ahhh.

I assume the home hub is a wireless ADSL router. If you are connected to it via wireless then your screenshot is showing the speed you are talking to the hub at. You must be on a 8Mbps ADSL Max product which means you will get upto 8Mbps max depending on distance from the exchange. And you will only ever get that if you live next door to the exchange. When they told you that it would be 1.5Mbps it was only a guess so be happy its higher.

yeah its the same with enet connection...using an adapter.
it will always say 100.00mps its because that is the capable speed of the adapter not the connection.

It's the connection between the adapter and the next point.. be it a switch, router etc.. :rasp:
If you plug a 100Mb NIC into a 10Mb hub, it'll say 10Mb.

its also VOIP, BT give you a VOIP phone and a separate phone number so you can receive and make calls using your broadband connection, so it acts as a base station and a second telephone with free evening and weekend calls.

also, bt are going to launch a tv on demand service via BB later this year and the wireless hub will update itself to handle that too apparently so not really a marketing gimmick, if youa re already on BT broadband like me just switch to total broadband and you get the hub free and i also got the phone (which is Hi Fi sound so very good quality)

you also get 250 minutes of free BT Openzone a month free which is pretty good so whenever you are around an hotspot in a hotel etc you can access it for free!

is there any way of knowing how far you are from the exchange?

No point. Lots of databases and different ways of finding out but just because you live xxxx metres from the exchange doesn't mean the phone line is that long.
