Well I took the task on in the 172. Decided against Pods. But instead, a bit extreme, built mdf rings for the speakers and mounted direct to the door metal, then cut out the door card inside to accomodate. You would never know
Otherwise ask Hydeho, as he has done door pods

I never actually finished them I just went down the mdf spacer route. They weren't difficult just a little time consuming. You just need resin, hardener, and fibreglass (mdf is always useful too). All the items needed can be bought from http://www.cfsnet.co.uk/acatalog/
