Burpspeed Version 2: Race Car Build

  172 Race Car
Cant wait till the car rolls up at somewhere weve been before. The car is flying this year. Either that or Tony was sandbagging for 3 years to make me look good

That video was really odd to watch, made me feel drunk. Was the camera on his shoulder or something!!??

That silver Scooby looked like a terrible driver, all over the f*cking place and cutting people up!!

One hell of a spin you had there Tony, thankfully no serious damage from that!

Can't wait to see the in car videos.

Did you drive the other 15 min stint Jay, or does the format only allow one driver per event?

Silverstone Race Report:

An invitational race for the Track Attack Club to join the MSVR meeting, being so close to Burpspeed HQ and the full GP circuit it would have been rude not to.

Wake up Sat morning to Sunshine, Frost and a chilling wind.

Even more chilling was what was parked opposite in the paddock, a Honda Civic and an Integra, just what I needed to start the day.:(
Signed on nice and early and managed to get through scrutineering, bluffing the cracked windscreen again (time for a new one).

As it was dry, the Direzzas were put on, pressures checked, and off we go. Now being the full GP circuit, I could see us not getting many laps in, in 15mins. I’d been around most of the circuit before in parts but never a full lap. One steady lap to get warmed up and then, oh, I never driven

Maggots at speed before, never mind I’ll work it out when I get there.

For a big circuit, it seemed quite busy with mx5′s, mr2′s and some nutter called Dave in a forest spec Mk2 Escort. Following him through Maggots was a hoot, all sideways and mud flaps.

Anyway, I managed 2 quickish laps, session over. I’d asked Nick and Oli to be in the pit lane to take tyre pressures.

POLE! 2:34:638

Don’t know how that happened, but I’ll take it. Fastest in a grid of all comers numbering some 40 cars! Sausage sandwiches and tea, felt good after that I can tell you. All the usual checks were done and all was good. So fuel up, put some new pads in and wait 2 hours.

Seemed very strange being right down the front in the assembly area, everybody waiting for ME to move first. 1st problem, from pole, I looked up, bugger, can’t see the light gantry!!! I had to shuffle down in the seat to be able to peer up, 30 sec, 5 sec, we’re off. Got a good start (didn’t want Jay telling me off), first few corners out the way, look in the mirror, I had a gap? It can’t be that easy surely. I was right, on the 2nd lap the boosted Integra starts to loom in the mirrors up the Hanger straight and slips by at Stowe.

By this time, the other Clio was nipping at my heels, I held him off for a bit, but was letting Andy in the Integra pull away, so I decided to let Matt in the Clio pass and try to pick up the pieces if anything happens.

3 laps of this, then that’s it all over, we crossed the line all within a second, great race.

Even better was that we hadn’t raced together before, no contact was made and it was close.

Oh and I beat my quali time 2:34:568 (just). Interviewed by the MSV team, Trophy and bottle of bubbly I head back to base, smiley faces all round, coming 3rd in an invitation race was a real result as far as I was concerned. Tea and cake this time, we really know how to party.

3rd-position.jpg

Time for Race 2. At least I could see the lights this time starting from 3rd.

Lights out, and we are off again, it was a little more hectic this time, 5 of us fighting for position, the Civic and Subaru had found some pace this time, so let battle commence. I lost count at how many times the lead changed, but great racing was had, the Civic even had the cheek to dent the car! Thanks for that old chap.

Me and Matt, onboard Clios had nudged our way to the front, and when we approached Brooklands, yellow flags indicating MX5′s scattered everywhere, I hung onto the back of Matt through all this, and got a good run out of Woodcote and along the pit straight, knowing that I was a little quicker through Copse than him I made up my mind to go for it and go for the inside.

clios-in-front.jpg

Just as I made my move Matt braked and turned in, WOW, I hit the brake pedal, and before you could say Dan Colshe, I was in a spin, I do remember seeing the pit wall/barrier flash pass, but fortune was on my side and slid gracefully into the gravel trap.

Buried, bugger. So 3 laps of fun, and now the wait to be dragged out.

All hands on deck with de gravel duties, bumper off, pads out shake it all about, a bucket full lol, going to start a new garden path. Only damage, was two very flat spotted front tyres and a dented 1/4 panel (Civic).

All in all, not a bad days racing, and it could have been very much worse than a couple of tyres and a dent.

Great stuff boys. How come they started you off at the old start/finish straight? Is the F1 paddock out of bounds?

Just watched both them all the way through (not often I do that lol) Awesome racing mate gutted I couldn't go and watch. The little Clio really holds its own against some of them bigger toys. Also that final spin lol so close to that wall for a second. Would be good to see it from the other Clios cam.

Haha that's awesome, what happened to that integra puff of smoke then slowed down the straight...? Fair play that wall was very very close lol!!! Awesome video though! :D

That racing was fantastic to watch, so nip & tuck, it must have been great fun to be out there and holding your own (for a change, normally you're holding someone else's ;)) and even though I knew how it ended my heart was in my mouth as you came out of Woodcote and onto the old pit straight. A real shame you ended the race beached in the gravel but it could have been significantly worse given the proximity of that wall!

Great work to everyone involved, the Burpspeed brigade just grows & grows! Well done.

Great racing Tony!

What were the kits behind you in the 2nd race?

P.S when are you fitting a BGW?

  Audi A3 TDI 170 B.E.
Can't believe how competitive the races are, and not the lead driver able to lap 3-4 seconds faster than next!

Think you've done a food thing and changed series.

Yes Mike, it's much more fun, I'd rather come 3rd, 500ths sec behind the car in front, than half a lap behind.

That was a stella drive Tony, holding the Integra back for 2 laps only to be passed due to higher top end, And a sneaky move by the black Clio,
I think the Jap boys are getting worried now!

Brake lights/no brake lights! He definately had brake lights before the spin but just look at your closing speed, then there was no change between lift off and braking, He must of been left foot braking whilst changing down a cog, you had no chance mate,

The gravel was the better of two evils!

I'm looking forward to this French Trophy

Great drive Tony.

Big Gay Wing!

Pah! non of that shiz. I think they are based on an MX5.

Good to watch vid's Tony and we all got a mention in dispatches too :approve: , it's much a closer series for sure.

It is Pete.
