Buying 172

[This is Scribbler not Diesel Power]

I think a few months back i saw some one saying that they could sell brand new 172 and cups at about 10/11k. Now since the skip jumped out at me (watch out for them they are lethal) I am going to buy one iminantly so any advice on where to get the cheapest deal i.e. discount for club membership would be most helpful.

I will be test driving them at Gordon lamb chesterfield so whats the general consensus regards which is better 172 or CUP? I know the cup is marginally quicker and looks better but the 172 has lots of goodies and leather its a tough one.

Dont start the 172 / cup thing up again pleeeeeease. Last time it was nearly pistols at dawn, lots of teddies got thrown in the corner and lots of dummies got spat out.

YOUVE BEEN WARNED!!

i dont think well quite have a repeat of that as I think everyones had their pop now! just drive both and see which one grabs u best.... its worth noting the price of both cars second hand as well.....

Fair enough question though. We dont have to fall out over it. Im in the market for a 172 and will not be going for a Cup. Entirely personal choice. Id rather have ABS and aircon and lose a few tenths of a second in performance.

If performance is all that matters to you, then you have to go for the Cup as youll be pissed off that you are lugging round weight that you dont want.

Pretty easy choice - get whatever YOU want!

I think all in all if I could of afforded the 172 i would of got it. But as the cup was in my price range i thought itd be a good time to own my first brand new car )

I was more interested in finding out that advert for them going cheap. I think one of the members on here was a dealer and could get new uk ones @ like 10-10-12k an old post!

The 172 vs cup thing is obviously relative and only based on peoples tastes, but i just wondered which was most popular. Think the price will sway the decision at the end of the day.

in that case i would go for a nearly new 172 ,i bought my mk1 in march, but went for a look at a mk2 it was flame red uk car 8000 miles £12500 1 year old and the sales man said i was to haggle and get some money off!!

think the cups looks super, but theres been a few times, through no fault of my own, people pulling out etc that the abs has been a life.. and no claims bonus saver!! + air con for the 4 days of summer we get is nice! and the 6 cd and spare wheel too!

my personal opinion i do too many motorway miles and not enough track ones to choose the cup over 172,if it was the other way round...........?

As far as I am aware Cups are outselling 172s at the moment - youd expect that with the price difference. Decide whats important to YOU then decide which car to get. Doesnt matter what anyone else thinks - theyre both great and whichever you buy youll love it.
