Buying help please!!!

I want a 1.8 16v clio so much its unreal, but i dont want my enthusiasm to cause me to buy the first thing i see.

I have about 2500 to spend and would like to pick uo a nice example, truth be told i really want one with 60k on it driven by some old man for his whole life :D

What is the best mileage to get on these cars as i hear at that age things start to go wrong? for 2500 what do you think i should be able to get.

Can you give me an tips on where to look and what to look for?

Thanks

Check the for sale section on here.. At least then you know that the car is coming from an "enthusiast" and not some burberry cap wearing chav..

for 2.5k you should be able to get a good l/m reg one mate,

if you can get one with 60k on then good, however things can go wrong around that mileage, if you get one thats done more, then all of the things should have been done. if things do go wrong, they can be expensive!!

the buying guide on the main page is a good help,
another thing is that, if you search under 16v or valver (thats what the 1.8 16v is refer to) then you should be able to get better info, as question like yours come up frequently.

also, forgot to say welcome !!

another thing i forgot to say, is that if you also look under williams, there will be a more detalied desciption of what to look for (they have the same body shell)

I kind of agree with you but it has some of problems too, i know ur gona want more for your car if u love it so, and be they will be modd and thus i think ragged a bit too, enthusiast or not, alot of u probably give your car a good blasting..

would say 70k be in good condition

Also, this site say valver does a 7.7 the same as the willaims, but ive seen other site saying 8.6 and the williams 7? whats that about??

0-60 times between the Willy and Valver is not big - 0.3 sec or something...mostly down to the gearin iirc...and obviously the driver...

Thing is, Mid-range is where it really shows the difference...and the Willy will start to pull away...

Realistically ur lookin at High 7s low 8s 0-60 for a Valver...

Willys are suppose to be 7.6...

For 2.5K u should be able to find a good un fella.

the question is do i wait and find one with 60 on the clock or get one thats had a new clutch cambelt, ect with 85 on the clock??

Wheres better to look, autotrader, the papers or here.

Whats better one thats been untouched or one thats been modd??

autocar way back in about 1992 ran a 16v in 7.2 secs,
a few on here have also done low 7s with standard 16vs.

autotrader is good, but watch out for dogs, on here is good too,

its up to if you get a modded one, thing is if its modded, think of how they would have driven it, ie thrashed. Sure you could get a standard one which has been thrashed as well, but to be honest most valvers have !! as there is little torque below 4.5k revs.
i personally prefer light mods or standard.

Ok i have seen one on autotrader, which is nearish. Metallic blue N reg, 80k on the clock in vgc, has fsh and part of that is cambelt change, havent got full deatil of what else has been done, would check that out on test drive.

He wants 2750, but i rekon on the day if i flash 2250 in his face hed take it, if it wa worth that. What you lot rekon, on that plate and miles???

You need to see the car in the flesh mate. Described as being in vgc means nowt till you see it. Take a magnet along with you and check the rear arches are metal not patched up with filler
