Buying My First Clio 172

Hi all,

I'm new and I'm about to buy a Clio 172 phase one 2001 Y plate, it has 57k miles BUT it hasn't had it's Cambelt changed.
Is it due?
I am in Dorset and K-TEC Racing in Verwood are close by, if it needs changing are these the best people to go to.

£4.2k max personally.
More like £3.8 since its near a cambelt.

There one for sale on the forum for £3.3k.

Really, where?

This one has Red dot brakes, superchip, Magnex exhaust and BMC induction kit.

Mods don't add value to a car, all it tells you is that it's been ragged!

Bloody 'ell your a friendly bunch aren't you, I've just come over from the Fiat forum and you sure no how to welcome a guy
your telling me a set of expensive Red dot brake pads and an aftermarket exhaust don't add value to a car, well I'm sorry but I don't agree at all.

I thought Clio sports are built for ragging.

Back to my original question because I am buying this car because it is spotless.

Anyone have anything good to say about K-Tec?

How long in weeks do I have before cambelt snaps? I know, how long is a piece of string but some real life experiences please.

welcome dude..

firstly the car is over priced.. a cambelt sets you back 600
Mods shouldnt up the value of the car, like some said its been ragged. Even though RS clios are ment to be driven hard theres always a limit to everything.

Red dot brake pads are 60 quid for the fronts which hardly add value!

£3.3k he wants.
I wouldn't say mods are worth anyhting I'd never pay more infact I'd pay less quite a lot of 172 owners buy them as there a fast car cumfortable etc not to rag them to death and thats the tyre of owner I'd prefere to buy off not a modied ragged to death car.
Never heard anything bad about ktec labour parts yep i've heard some not so positive coments then again nver heard one company with a great reputation.
Cambelt well it depends how its been driven most chnage it at 60k for safety and none have broken 80k is the most I'd let it go to and then with careful driving not being ragged.

Hello,
The problem is in my area, the southwest these darn RS Clios are pricey, for instance a X plate on 82k is £4995 or X plate on 52k is £5495 so I figured £4800 for Y plate on 57K isn't bad for this area.
K-tec have quoted me £400 including VAT for the cambelt and all aux's belts so that seems okay.
Now these brakes are the Red Dot 40 Groove disk XR1774 @ £213.40
So all in all, I don't think I've done that bad, I wanted a Magnex exhaust and induction kit and it's also been chipped.
And last thing, it is very fast.

if you havnt, consider traveling alittle further.. it may cost to get there but uill save on the car. I even heard one bloke travel 300 miles! Thats alittle too much, needless to say he had 300 fun miles driving it back :)

I managed to get a mk2 ph2 172 for 5500 and doesnt need a cambelt for ages.

It may be worth while holding out, search this forum since alot of minters come up. But if ure heart is set, go for it.

GDI and Yozzasport are recomended for service/mods/parts etc,, so bookmark em.
