Caliper Painting

Well this is thursdays task.

Just wondered if spraying them will be better or will painting them with a brush be fine?

Are the calipers a pain to remove so that i can give them a proper paint or do most people just cover up the disc etc and take care with it?

Will a wire brush be enough to clean the caliper?

All i used yea.

Even if a small amount of paint hits the disc, braking soon takes it off

I sanded mine down with some sandpaper, cleaned them with soapy water, dried off and away ya go!

Problem with brushing is that up close they look s**t quality. From afar they look great.

Don't touch your pad at all. You won't be able to remove it.

Mate, just paint the caliper.

Its not rocket science. Just paint it, don't get paint on the disc and don't get paint on the pads. My son is not even three and understands to colour in inside the lines. Its genuinely not much more difficult.

Well would removing the caliper be a right pain to get right?
Cause then i could spray it.

Not sure on racing blue or yellow yet.

dont you have to cover up some rubber bits as well?

No. Leave the caliper on. Otherwise you're overcomplicating the task. Just I was a bit dissapointed when I brush painted mine.

Removing the caliper would just make it a bigger job as the brakes would need bleeding afterwards. Just paint them in situ.

Left my calipers on, just cleaned them up with a wire brush and some soapy water, then brush the paint on.

I did mine Saturday. Hammerite Smooth from B&Q - Wire brush then some brake cleaning spray (local motor factors will sell it for a few quid) quick rub with a cloth, get painting . . .

When I did mine I thought I would do it properly. Took the caliper and pad carrier off and stripped it all down. Then got all 4 corners proffessionally powder coated. It only cost £30, my time and a litre of brake fluid.

It's been 3 months now and they of course still look mint. Nice smooth finish and they don't seem to have even got dirty.

Was pretty satisfying taking it all apart and re-assembling it myself aswell.

I painted mine red under black alloys

Ill take a pic tomorrow and post it, looks orite although its a 1.2 and there standard calipers, going to upgrade sometime this year any recomendations?

Fitted the springs ok then Josh?

This should be a doddle - I want to get mine done soon too
As said - wire brush and brake cleaner as it dries off very quickly
I would power-wash the whole thing before you start if it's really grubby

Hammerite Smooth good to use for this or do you need high-temp paint folks?

Ill be using Hammerite Smooth, just unsure whether to do it blue, yellow or red! ahh decisions!

i have got some from e-tech, i wa going to use brand new if anyone is interested comes with brush, caliper cleaner, full set

I have the E-tech kit too in Orange for when I had my Orange badges on lol never got round to the calipers
