Cam belt and water pump change!!!!

What parts do I need for a cambelt change,as well as the cam belt? Do I need the tensioners?

Also are there any other parts needed in changing a water pump?

And what tools are needed for both?

Cheers Danny

If you are doing this yourself good luck. Think a post on here a few weeks ago mentioned someone doing their water pump themself.

Cambelt change circa £130 plus VAT from KTEC/BB etc and water pump can be done at the same time but labour intensive due to lack of room for both jobs. Id consider what needs doing and perhaps get clutch done too as clutch can be had for 50 quid, pump about 15 quid and cambelt is cheap although can get kit inc tensioner and pulley. Then get all done with engine out as would work out cheaper than getting done seperately.

Piece of mind for several k miles. Coolant flush whilst you are at it too.

They way I look at it, try and combine work like this to save long term hassle and perhaps be preventative rather than reactive with maintenance.

What he said ^^^

It was me that changed my water pump !! Its an easy job but just takes ages !! Would be much easier with the engine out !! If you are gonna DIY then read my post !!

If you are lucky enough to have another car to use, winch to lift engine out, all tools and somewhere to do it I would take your time and do it yourself. Its the labour charge that is the killer.

I have the winch and tools but no spare car, place to do it or perhaps enough patience.

At least taking the car to a renault specialist like any who advertise or are mentioned on here will give your car a once over and spot any potential problems you dont know about. They at least see valvers/willys etc quite often so are experienced in looking for common faults and practiced in fixing them.

Only found out about my water pump when BB did my cambelt. Glad I did as some places may just do what you ask them to do and things could go unoticed (spelling?).

Cheers lads, some well good info!

Well Somethings leaking in my cooling system and this guy reconed it is probably the water pump! He said if it is, it will be leaking onto the cam belt, thus getting anti freeze on it and making it deteriorate!

So he said just change them both and asap!

So Im gonna try and get it done this weekend!

Shall I get hold of the cam belt kit then, with tensioners? how much? where from?

Also how much was your water pump craig and where was it from buddy?

Cheers lads,

Danny

the tensioner etc has already been on the car for a long time so the bearings have had some use.if you dont change it then its going to be on for the same length of time again and if it doesnt last that long and collaspes your going to get some exspensive engine damage.its easy to change and only an extra £30 so it would be a good idea to change it.renault also say to change it when doing a belt as well.if you fit a complete genuine kit you also have the chance of parts warranty claims if it ever snaps.
