Cam belt/ dephaser replacement

Does anyone now of a good garage in Yeovil?? Something has gone in that with the cam belt etc or as ive read on here the dephaser, the engine still ticks over but sounds terrible and have been strongly advised not to drive, so I'm prob gonna need them to pick me up too. A rough pricing would help so I'm not getting ripped off too.

Birchdown charged me £430ish for cambelt. Dephaser would have been a further £200ish if it had needed it. That's on a 172. Will be cheaper if yours is a cup

i paid 120 quid to have a dephaser ftted ( i supplied the dephaser pulley)
i drove my car for about 2months before i had it replaced, it just sounded like a rough as fcuk diesel when warm and was a bit down on power.

When does the dephaser pulley need replacing? I've just bought a 2004 182 with 50k miles. Taking it to a specialist to have the cambelt and aux belt changed and probably the waterpump at the same time. They said the dephaser pulley will probably need replacing at the same time too- is this about right? Cheers.

they need replaced when they develop some sort of play in them iirc?

Mines has knocked up 96k and is still solid so just depends really.

Waterpump isn't a big must.

With dephasers, it's all about how they've been kept/treated to oil changes regularly, etc. I've seen cars last 160-170k on the original, equally I've seen cars on 60k with knackered ones.

The thing about it is they can start rattling at any time, so most specialists will recommend they're changed with a cambelt service as you need to remove both belts etc to change the dephaser.

If it was my car I'd forget about the water pump and spend the
Money on the Dephaser pulley instead, water pumps rarely fail and there not driven by the cambelt

The car will be perfectly safe to drive if it is the dephaser pulley so you can relax. Just sounds RAF.

Myne cost £440 all in, warranty covered luckily

This is what I was hoping but my water pump was weaping :(
It was only £100 fitted though, thought it was going to be more than that.

Ok, thanks. There's no rattling from it yet so I'll leave the dephaser pulley for a while yet. May take back the waterpump I bought today aswell :eek: save me 20 quid.

I would advise to change the dephaser, if it starts rattling you have to change the cambelt AGAIN (only pikey cowboys reuse old belts)
