Cam Belt Kit, inc Aux Belt??

Hi I bought an 02 172 3 weeks ago, 76k with 5 stamps in the service book.

The last service was carried out at 70k and the reciept states it had a replacement cam belt kit fitted. Would this have included the aux belt? There's no mention of it but surely it would have been due one??

The service wasn't done at renault.

It was £700, but that includes 4 goodyear eagles (£220)

Yes. Since you have to to the accessory belt off to replace the timing belt, it'd be stupid not to replace both.

Thats what I thought, so you wouldn't think you could even buy a cambelt replacement kit that didn't include an aux belt?

cambelt kit DOES NOT include aux belt kit, they're 2 separate items

changing the aux belt alone is fine IF AND ONLY IF there is no noise/play coming from the tensioner/and or idler

Right cheers Fred. Well on the reciept there is no mention to aux belt, only cambelt kit. How much is it to change the aux belt, and at 76k, how many times should it have been changed? Im thinking its probably just been done once at 36k service.

£85 inc vat for aux belt change with a genuine belt

the aux belt kit is £110+vat approx (thats with the new tensioner and idler) as i say check the condition of the existing ones, any noise or play change them, if not just change the belt

Just read on strikeengine.com that a new aux belt only costs £19, so I can't see why anyone would change the cambelt and not stick a new belt on.

I've just changed mine @ 33k and its been changed before i had it, so its had 2 aux belts on along with a cambelt. 51 plate btw

Glad i did change it look at the state of it. Make sure its been done mate :S

Where did you get it done? Not far from me. Do you mind me asking how much it costed to change the aux belt?

did it myself with loads of help from a friend, just bought the belt as the full kit got replaced at 5yrs so it cost me £20 for the belt from renault

I wouldnt have said so, you do have to know what your doing. If it wasnt for my friend being a mechanic and having the knowledge then I wouldnt have tried it alone.

Not so much of a big job its just the engine is so tightly in the little shell that thingshave to come out to make room headlights etc..

Is there any way you can check condition of aux belt without actually taking it off??
