Fred/Danny if one of you can copy the guide in the guides section, ammend the bits that are incorrect, then PM it me, I will update it. A job such as that needs to be done correctly.
unfortunatley its one of my most common jobs, redoing people's own attempts and garages attempts
no no no
undo inlet and exhaust cam (crank pulley will already be loose by this point)
fit new belt and tension
rotate cam assemlbly at least twice, i do it backwards, with ALL the pullies loose (inlet, exhaust and crank) but the cams/crank are still locked in place
check tension
THEN and only then if the tension marks line up you re torque the cam/crank pullies
remove locking tools
THEN you turn the engine over a few times by hand and THEN check the cam timing
labour to fit a belt kit if you supply the bits?
i don't do it fella, as i can't offer any form of warranty due to me not supplying the bits (hassle if you have a part failure, unlikley, but i don't want to get envolved with it if you understand)
i'm £425 inc vat with 12months warranty, full cambelt kit and FULL aux belt kit
when you break down the labour charge and the parts cost of the above price you're basically paying trade for the bits anyway!
the front tool isn't really to do with timing as such. The actual position of the pulleys doesn't matter at all. By fitting the pulley locking tool (AFTER tensioning the belt) you are holding the pulleys still while torquing the pulleys up to stop the cams (and cam lock tool) from twisting
Thanks Fred i will, are you working tomo so i can give a quick call?if anyone gets stuck feel free to call me
Odd! Shows up ok for me, lol.
There is another copy somewhere, il try and find the link
That will be good, i now have the parts and the Renault tools.
Did you have any problem ordering the parts from Renault? I'll keep my thoughts reserved about my local Renault dealer, but 11 days for a c.v boot?.....:S
Thank you very much i will do, i just need a step by step on what to remove and then on "how to do"phone is 24hours mate, call me anytime
When this operation is carried out, it is essential
to change:
- the exhaust camshaft pulley nut,
- the inlet camshaft phase shifter bolt,
- the camshaft seals,
- the phase shifter blanking piece seal.
I doubt belt kit comes with seals. For Clio 172 you would need cam seals set 7701471629 (2 seals, nut, bolt, blanking piece seal). Not sure it suits 182, double check.
You need to measure the bolt if you want to save it, see the same manual for bolt length limit. Nut is not measurable I suppose.
