Cam conversion in Williams

Anyone done this? If so how good value for money is it? I want more speed but dont want to shell out £1000. I would prefere to spend £500. Any ideas? Ive looked into head work, but apparently not really worth it in the WIlliams. ;-(

williams is proberly the best one to get it done to coz ull get more gain than any other clio!

ur looking bout £400 i reckon tops for headwork call up Hill power and they will sort u out

BBPT do a head package which includes pullys, cams, porting and gas flow of head and manifold, ECU mapped on the rollers to suit your mods, timing and fueling for around £1500. Seems alot but i know but people i know have walked away with 37bhp gains. Doesnt sound alot on paper, but on the road its another story in car that weighs under a tonne.

187bhp willy - NICE :D

that bb deal sounds cheap

im going for headwork after xmas

Ive only got my williams chipped, green filter, magnex decat + system and I have 174bhp. Thats got to be about £500-600 of mods (if all are brought from new)...I wouldnt say an extra 14bhp is worth an extra grand on top of that!!!!

you are saying an xtra 14bhp

but them stage 2 mods, will really boost performance where as your st1 mods only slightly boost it, all thought youve got impressive gains there

Dont be put off, get the work done mate !!

Get the head done, cams, and chip !!

Trust me you wont regret it !!

If ya wanna see come and drive mine !! ;)

The Williams F7R unit has sharper cams and polished inlet exhaust parts (as well as the obvious bottom end change) over the 16Vs F7P unit. On that basis Ive also heard that it isnt worth polishing/porting the inlet parts of a Williams engine.

BHP isnt everything, personally im not that interested in BHP...more into torque...

I got a mate whos got a MK1 Escort, whos done alot of head work on it, this thing is only running about 140BHP as far as we know, but this thing is running mid 12s on the 1/4 mile.

The BBPT head package sounds good, im sure u wouldnt be dissapointed with the work done.

So ive been told, i think your right. Lets face it £1000 for 15 BHP is alot. I wouldnt mind spening the £400 on head work if it gave 10 BHP but i dont see it happening.

BHP isnt really the issue with a Williams - what you need to do to make your mind up is go in a standard Willy and then go in something like Leighs with the full head treatment and higher lift cams. And even better if you are used to a standard valver and one with head work and hotter cams.

But in case you cant arrange all that, heres my opinion on it. 16v needs every bit of help it can get and head and cams work will give it a decent extra bit of poke but nothing thatll set the world on fire. Williams responsds a lot better to a full stage 2 job - mild head work, chip, zorst, higher lift fast road cams eg. Piper 270 and verniers. Id say its better value to spend £1500 on doing a Williams top end, than a valver. Theres a clear difference between standard Williams and a worked on one. As youd expect because of the larger capacity.

2 live, you must have it chipped to make 185...either that or you have been testing the car on a micky mouse rolling road :D

no way you could get that kind of gains from just exhaust and filter...

Mate this guys williams is probably the fastest standard one in the country, like most cars you get good ones and you get bad ones and Jons is fukin unreal

with just a powerflow exhaust ,de-cat, and an aftermarket air filter he managed a 14.6 quarter mile, which is faster than any lightly modified 172 ive ever seen

Also i know for a fact his car hasnt been chipped as the limiter cuts in at the standard rpm ( i know this as i took it down the strip and being used to mine i hit the limiter every time ;) ) my williams is chipped and i cant even beat it ! (yet)

f**k knows whats times he would get if he did chip it! 14.1??????
