cambelt/aux belt change now engine whine

  Clio 172
I've just had my belts changed and kits and now there is a whine coming from engine when driving. It seems to get louder when more revs are on. Any ideas?

This is probably due to the sound deadening being removed. Apparently it's an arsehole to get back on properly and could easily get caught up in the belts. Thus you have more noise once the belts have been done.

I'm hoping this is the case with mine anyway. Gonna get it booked in with fred in the near future though so will find out for sure

Sounds like you need the PAS pump looking at. New belt would be tighter so may highlight the pump being worn or even having low fluid

it does it when hot too... for example accelerating out of roundabouts in 2nd its noticable. It's probably me being picky.

As you can hear, the noise goes off on full lock.

pas pump maybe. take it back to the garage and see what they say. Mine was done at queens service station and not had a problem with it. Doesnt sound too good though.

Its now got a tapping/rattling noise, have got another video, waiting for upload. Just seems to much of a coincidence that this happens after my belts were done.

Thats the noise my car made albeit not that loud and I got dephaser and belt kits changed and sound has gone!
Think you would be best taking it to a specialist to look over!

Is this something that would of been changed with a cam belt kit and aux belt kit?

I have to drive about 30 miles to the garage tomorrow, what will a knackered dephaser do?

a specialist would've advised it, but not part of the kit, if it is the dephaser then guess what? same job you've just had done ALL OVER AGAIN, sorry dude :(

  Clio 172
Dont need new kits do I? just need to go into the same part and replace the dephaser?

How much does that normally cost?

Does it seem right that when the kits have just been replaced this noise has come on? would that cause a dephaser problem?

when replacing a cambelt if the tension has been done up to tight you will get a loud whining noise.. almost like a supercharger like someone else has posted.. it could either be this or the pas belt.. try slacken it off a little and see whther the noise goes.. if it does your looking in the cambelt direction buddy

Just been up in car again and it deffinatly goes off when turning the wheel for a few seconds and on full lock it totally disappears

The cambelt is manually tensioned and accessories belt is automatic. Somethings not right here as a belt change should not bring about a whine like your describing unless generally it's been over tightened?.. I'd personally be going back to where I got it from and asking them to re check it. Also I've never once had to leave the sound deadening out after changing a cambelt on an RS Clio!? I've known water pumps to show themselves up a little more with new accessories belt kits on as they are obviously a bit tighter on the bearing and the noise will alter with engine rev..

Took it back to Queens Service Centre who did the job first time.

Turns out they put a pulley on the wrong way round and was rubbing on the PAS pump, so they changed it all around and it is fine now :)
