I wouldn't assume anything with Renault! If you haven't asked for it why would they change it?

My local stealer has quoted me around £700 just a few days ago? I would have thought they would all be the same price?!

I'll be able to get a hold of a genuine aux belt kit for £65, timing belt kit £110 and dephaser pulley for £171.72 all inc vat. I work for Arnold Clark and we have a Renault dealer down the country so I get stuff staff price

Yup seems they are! Although I bet it's still cheaper than benfield are charging him
im guessing they charge £100+ vat per hour too because they wanted £250 + vat to do a 2nd service on the 200.

Im sure I paid £170 for Cambelt kit , dephaser and aux kit at staff rate James ! Speak to this man , he's your bloke for genuine Renault bits !
Your funeral. Especially as the parts aren't much more and it doesn't save any labour.
As it would only have cost an extra £40ish. And you get another year. And should the aux belt fail and take the cambelt you've written off any warranty as you didn't get the full kit changed.
Seems to be a lack of specialists in the north east who could also offer me a courtesy car, and the price wasn't as high as expected (I know its still more than an indi). Plus if the job was to go wrong I feel I'd have more comeback with a main dealer than a local indi. Time will tell I suppose. To be honest next time I think I'd buy the timing tools and do it myself as with all of the other jobs Ive done on my car its the only way I can be 100% satisfied its been done properly.

Courtesy car insurance was not cheap when I looked in to it about 5 months ago not to mention i dont like lending someone a car so they can see how fast it goes in 1st and reverse whilst i treat their car with respect.
Regarding warranty issues though (and I cannot speak for other specialists) this is why I have professional indemnity insurance and only use genuine Renault parts.

I know what you are saying thoigh but Its a gamble sometimes no matter where you go as the larger franchise chains can be more criminal than the small backstreet garages at times.
I try to be fair and if my work damages your car then I dig deep. If a part I fit fails then its comes to me (initially) for inspection then if its a valid issue it goes to Renault UK who confirm/deny and pickup the bill.
I've had auto factors try to win my business with offers of belt kits for the Clio at £34!!! Yes, they would really help my profits but in the event of one failing what come back do I have vs loss of face with my paying customer.

OK so I guess this will be the final update to the thread. I picked the car up this evening and it seems they have done a good job. Makes good power still and no funny noises so I'm pleased with that.
They gave me all of the old parts and to my surprise there was an aux belt tensioner and pulley in there, so it looks like they have replaced the full aux kit anyway, unless the cam belt has an identical tensioner to the aux belt?
I only asked for the cam belt and dephaser with a new aux belt so looks like this is an added bonus.
They mentioned the old dephaser was starting to stick so a good job I got it changed as initially they recommended leaving it alone. I have the old dephaser here, is there anyway I can test for this sticking with it off the car?
Overall paid £670 which I know is probably a couple of hundred more than I would have paid at an independent, but I didn't have to pay fuel or accomodation costs which I would most likely have done if I was taking it to Mick/Fred/Dan, not to mention possibly having to take time off work depending on opening hours.
