Hey guys,

Anyone have any suggestions for reputable garage in north east area? Don't want to deal with Middlesbrough renault as they quoted me £719. Surely there must be somewhere cheaper?

I got mine done there over a year ago now, i supplied my own parts and the labour was about £300, mine is a cup so its less money to change the cambelt but the price was still high but i needed it doing asap so i bit the bullet and got it done, i now go to mickleton service station in barnard castle (Hutchie on here) there a renault specialist, or go to mendall motors in thornaby, there another renault specialist, had a few bits done there and they were spot on, in fact a mechanic at middlesbrough renault said go there for work done

Hi, bit of a noob on here, was wondering if anyone knows how much all the correct tools would cost for cambelt + dephaser etc? and where from?
thanks

^yes as you HAVE to (regardless of what the workshop maunal says) loosen the inlet pulley (aka the dephaser) the exhaust pulley and the crank pulley when doing a cambelt on them

what wrk did they do for 360? because Ive been quoted the same but just for cambelt change... I hav 2 pay seperate for the water pump, cam seals and aux belt kit

Had mine done recently at a non-specialist. Had the FULL cambelt kit done, and paid £480 all in, they didn't do the Auxilary as it looked 'mint and like new'. I kicked up as I asked for that also. It went back in today to have the aux belt done too (FOC), just the belt itself. This thread has me worried though... when I picked it up the first time, the chap said the timing was out before and it did indeed feel better after, so I can only assume they must have known what they were doing!? The car drives spot on... shall I just drive it? :)

This is a 182 on 28k. And the aux belt, which I have infront of me, does indeed look nearly new as they said.

what is it exactly that autodata got wrong??? not attempting it myself, just curious

also interested to know as will be attempting it myself shortly,
never used locking tools before doing cambelts (over 13 yrs as a tech), so interested in the point being stressed of the genuine locking tools, particularly the tool at the pulley end.

torque settings are wrong and the CORRECT process isnt listed on autodata, it just says to stick in the crank pin and horse shoe and change the belt - wrong

there is a guide on this site mate with pics and everything! you have to be a paid member tho.

just a belt though mate, you shouldve got the full kit included for that price!

I agree, that's what I thought I was getting, but they cut a corner I guess, can't be helped now. Just looking for confirmation that a 28k, FSH motor with a near-mint Aux belt that came off, will be ok if it's had full cambelt kit and just an aux kit installed? :) so I can sleep at night :D

Getting the local Garage to do mine after a long and hard think about it! they assure me they have the proper tools - they had to borrow them from another Garage!!

I am getting my Timing belt changed along with the Dephaser Pulley and the Oil Pump and also the Chain because it's way too slack he tells me.

I hope that should sort out the problems i've been having which i posted in another thread on here... driving me nuts!!

Is there anything i should make them aware of when doing it?? i understand as i've read countless threads on this that it should be done by a specialist but i'll take a chance safe in the knowledge that i will take it a specialist if they balls it up!

Also, should i be looking to change the Aux belt and waterpump at the same time? ( i have a leak coming from somewhere - it empties my washer bottle, i can see it dripping through my passenger wheel arch cover)

Just read some posts on this thread i agree with the guy who said about the correct tools we use them on all belt changes on clios you should always go for both full kits and possibly the de-phaser pulley if you have the funds to do it. the 2.0 16v clio is a easyish belt to change but if you do not know the procedure on how to do it thats when problems start to arise. You dont even have to take the bumber of like some people think its actually an easier belt than the 1.4 16v with air con more room suprisingly. But the main reason i have decided to post on this is that if you are not sure the timimng tools are being used at your local garage spend the little bit of fuel money going to somewhere that will show you they have the tools before they start the job you have pictures of them from the guy who posted on the front page of this thread you also need a timing pin in adtion to the tools pictured

Dave i still want to see how you change the aux belt tensioner without removing the bumper and slam pannel - serious question!

NWP did this on mine.

Fred, I am still waiting to see this vid of you doing a blindfolded belt change

An excellent piece of advice. just one addition - Change the water pump at the same time.
My experience was the removed cambelt seemed pristine, the ancillary belt degraded, the
water pump definitely on the way out.
All replaced with a cambelt kit + ancillary belt +pump +new antifreeze. 1.6VVT 04 plate.
