Cambelt snapped on 172ff

  Clio 172
Guys,

Cambelt snapped on my 172ff 03 reg. Got this changed at the garage, that service Aston's & Ferrari's, about 3 weeks ago. Then coasting along and *Boom - it goes. :(:dapprove:

Will my engine ever be the same again, even tho the Manager of the garage says a full rebuild is being done.

Or is it new car time: Megane or 197 time :S

I will be signing/payin up very soon...

I understand that... but have been told that everything will be re-machined and performance will not be affected. I am seriously pissed off because I have maintained my car and this happens...

Just because they can service astons and ferraris doesn't mean they can change it on a clio sport properly. I would always take it to a specialist to get this sort of work done. There seem to be allot of failures recently caused by garages who dont really know what they are doing.

Peperami, was offered a courtesy call but its 1litre Corsa. Last time I had a 1.3 Micra was graffiti on it, no lie, and i ragged the hell out of it - gave it back to them with a pissing radiator and slightly broken window where it fell thru (that has made me laugh) - different garage.

Got my company car to drive, well sort of borrowed. But its a mint 172ff Pearl black and had soo many plans for it. Grrrr!!!

Crustys172Cup - i'm thinkin that ;)

Gona see wot its like when i get it back. Been scare-mongered but might suffice it if its ok :s

So they changed the belt and them it went tits up? I doubt it snapped, more likely fell off!

It will have definately bent some valves, but there is a very slim chance of a new engine being required, usual drill is,

: Head skim, replaced valves re seated with new seals etc
: Head tested to check for hairline cracks
: Clean block up
: New headset, bolts & cambelt kits etc!

It will be the same as before it a good job is done!

SBV116 i'm hoping it is... you sound like you know wot your talking about.

Caister - i've learnt this now :s but with a good reputation like there's and thinking you get what you pay for, was thinking cant go wrong really. Next time I shall be asking on here...

Just fingers crossed cos i dont want to get rid - cos it hasnt missed a beat, on finance and prefer the shape of it compared to the new ones.

Just remember, mistakes do genuinely happen! Could have been a faulty item!

We rebuilt DrRollo's of here after his exhaust puuley sheared, had 8 valves, he has never had any problems!

  Dodgy one

With slightly more compression, but you wont notice the power difference TBH

The garage have admitted full liability and were moaning "oh this is going too cost us". I thought it won't hit you hard cos you charge the earth lol

Engine feels fine, maybe even better. Never been in "love" with my car as it breaks all the time. Not been to bad lately though.
