Cambelt Timing after running....

  A45 AMG 406BHP
set timing correctly with correct tools with correct process.

The horseshoe went straight in. Perfect!

started the engine without aux belt on & jacked up.
it idle at 2k.

locked to TDC again and the horseshoe was very slightly off on the dephaser and catches the edge. it wont go in. without a wiggle (up down)

the cambelt tensioner is very slightly off perfect in the middle of notch(its still in the correct bit just not perfect.
would this cause this??

will i have to do it again eg timing???? and get the tension perfectly in the notch?

cheers

Edit:

I did prime the dephaser before starting up.

If it idles at 2k do you have a vacuum leak? I think your over thinking about the timing being out tbh because you had a mare with it.

Just to update:
Im not worried about the 2k idle.... I know it would be idling at this, left a few inlet nuts off.- plus the battery was near enough flat!

My main worry is the timing slightly of moving..will it be ok? i can get the horseshoe in, but its not as easy as it was before.
it requires a slightly wiggle down and up to get it in?

It will be fine, like i said in my last post about this, im sure even brand new dephasers have a tiny amount of play in them. You will probably notice its always the exhaust side that is perfect but the inlet very slightly out. Nothing to worry about IMO. regarding the tensioner how far has it moved, if its a 1mm or so i wouldnt lose sleep over it.

But im am sure the cambelt brigade will be alonger shortly telling you it must be perfect and to take it to a specialist immediatley!

As much as the timing is very important I think your being a bit paranoid, as above the tensioner arrow will move a tad and and the horse shoe won't all ways fall in this is not a major issue. One thing that does spring to mind though is why if your being so careful when doing the job your running the engine without the aux belt on :S

Because it makes no difference what so ever?

i know it not going to kill the engine but renault state in all their manuals to never run the engine without the aux belt so it just made me wonder if he's trying to do it properly why would you run the engine without the aux...

Can you imagine the cost to the OEM if they wrote 'using the engine without the aux belt is OK' and they had to do all the warranty work where people have f**ked up thinking they didn't need one ?!

The public are generally stupid or a bit crafty. Renault would be filing for administration before the first 1,000 Clios left the line :rasp:

It SHOULD be on, but using a bit of common sense, it's perfectly acceptable to be off for short periods of time (i.e: a few mins of idling).

I always give a quick fire up without the auxbelt just to check its OK. No harm at all, just dont leave it running as it will cook itself.

As much as i agree with the above, arnt renault manuals supposed to be confidental and not read by the public?

as retro_renault said and I don't think that's why Renault say that its something to do with the resistance that the aux belt gives.

So in that case, a/c delete and power steering delete is bad for the engine on a ff 1*2 then? At the end of the day as laine_16v said its fine to test that everything is ok before you box it Back up.

dont get the wrong idea, i agree its not a problem to run engine without aux belt for a little bit just to test

im not saying that im just saying its not got anything to do with warranty claims and stopping customers from removing the belt all together.

Gayest argument ever TBH, we all know its going to be fine without the aux belt providing you dont let it get hot, and we all know no manufacturer is ever going to recommend running an engine without a belt fitted, so there really is nothing to discuss, yes its fine, but no they wont say that.
