cams,inlets bhp in a 197??

  Glanza V
hi all, well i am fancying road cams and matched inlets for my 197. which company would you all recomend to do the work and what bhp gains would i be looking at over standard.

any advice greatly appreciated all comments welcome!

Kev made 200.1bhp at rs tuning with inlets, cams, map and exhaust.

Think the overall gain was around the 15-20hp range, i'm sure he can tell you what the story is!

  Renaultsport Clio 197
yeap..
15 to 20 bhp with exhaust/cams/remap etc...

that is not bad gains, you'll definitely notice the difference :)
imho that's how the car should've left the factory.
Seeing Kevo's speedo video I'm guessing he's almost got a second off from 0-100 compared to mine (standard)...

a think my best bet is to get this all done at once i.e exhaust and a good filter as well as the cams and inlets. i am based in the north east so travelling up and down the country is rather a big issue.

ps. any recomendations on who should be a must to do the work?

mark,

  B/G 182 + PH1 Track
AAS - Advanced automotive systems - in Newcastle for youe exhaust

Icarus for cheap Cams :p Fred to fit them.

Pick up some matched inlets frome Jamsport or angel works,

Then head to RStuning leeds to get it all mapped up.

Cos if you are going to do it, you have to do it properly :p

From 184 - 203 (after my airbox)

Good gains. I would speak to Paul at RS Tuning, he did mine and his Dads garage fitted the cams!

Only problem there is the 20 million different company involvement, I'd personally only ever take a car one place to get the lot done for piece of mind and liability, but I had to learn the hard way lol

I would rather take my cars to the person i know/trust/believe to be the best in that field.

AAS exhausts are second to none, pauls mapping is second to none.

Freds knowledge and skill is second to none.....you get the picture.

Having different places is not a problem aslong as you know who they are.

Like our track car has imput/parts from nearly every Renault tuning specialist on here :p

lol, no fair enough I can see that taking it to the best person for the job is the best way to do it, but best person is a very subjective issue, but more down to 'if' something goes wrong then it's a blame game the more people are involved. Part fair enough, I mean the more actual tuning side and fitting/design work.

thanks for all the help guys, cheers for the advice to be fair tho i would rather just take it to 1 company and get the lot done all at once then head to rs tuning for the map! just keeps things simple so i know who has done what altho if i was a little more mechanically minded bazzons way would sound logical, a mean getting the best people to do each job sound fantastic in an ideal world but if am goin to have to travell myt as well go to k-tec gdi? then head up to rs tuning for the map.

also i have been doin a little reserch today ha hopefully by the time all this will be done ill know cams and inlets inside out haha.

thanks again to evey1!! mark,

if you have your mind made up on cams I'd say thats the way to go about it personally :) Oh, for cam profile dont listen to anyone advising of Cat 420's, be warned now that these are basically billet stock cams for all intents and purposes, the 428's are the ones to go for if you get Cat ones (which I think for their price and performance are best VFM on these cars)

Yes because 428's will run REALLY well in a 197/83X................

You need 402's or 403's for an 830 engine i.e. a 197. 403's will be a struggle to get running on the standard engine control but not impossible. 402's are proven in Kev's 197. Speak to Paul at RS Tuning regarding what he thinks is doable cal wise on your budget. RS Murray can fit the cams for you, just round the corner from RS Tuning.

Cheers

good point, I was thinking of a 182 for some reason... reading fail

basically a mild road cam will do the job

yep have decided to get all the work done at rs tuning/rs murray just gunna get the breathing mods done first exhaust and a decent filter then it will be ready for the inlets and cams remap etc also it will be the 402s i go for.

regards mark,

ps im still learning/reading up on and about cams etc so the more info posted the beta!

Yup yup!! Paul will sort you out!! ;)

If you're local to me, (Chester) you can take mine out for a run!

i have fancied going the cam route, but mild cams dont excite me much and its alot of expense for small gains. if you want to do it or have people that can do the work fair enough. for me £2k of mods for 20bhp isnt enough

Unfortunately that's what you have to spend though. Tuning NA engines which produce nigh on 100bhp/litre is not a cheap operation. I'd say £2K for 20bhp is pretty cheap actualy at this level.

If you think you can chuck some 'none mild' cams in then forget it, you'll need to do a lot of work to accomodate the lift etc. that they will offer i.e. a piston change at the very least, then rods and fasteners to allow sufficent RPM to make use of the profile etc. etc. Basicaly £5k+ That'll get you 230bhp on the standard inlet manifold, possibly 240'ish with changes to the induction/inlet setup.

Cheers
M
