cams, now what chip

if i was to have cams fitted to a williams engine, just reground ones nothing too wild, would you suggest;-

a)hill power chip and pbv (nick understandably said that he wouldnt give me timing firures for the cams)

b)bbperformance tuning chip(means i got to travel all the way down south BUT they will set it up for me)

c)attempt to skimp and get just a pbv with hill powers cheaper stage 1 chip?

GDis near cambridge I thought? Hill Power is Derby.

I have had a few things done at BB mate and they are very good.

Havent had a chip but they always seem to be very helpfull and willing to advise on anything. Theyre also not trying to take your money off you - if they dont think you need something they will tell you!

unichip all the way. iv had off the shelf chips, and to be honest its better off with standard ecu.

i have piper cams/verniers on my willy engine and am using the hill power stage 2 chip. i set them up following the piper instructions but the hill power chip is mapped for cams that are slightly advanced. the car runs fine but iam making peak power at 7150 rpm and losing a bit of mid range torque so the cams do need adjusting to extract all the power. iam just waiting for a sunnyday to have a play with them and see whats the best set up.

Had BB chip and it is good, makes drivability better. Not at new price though, £350 is too high for a chip not matche dto the individual car. All I was asked was what petrol I used and it was mated to IK and exhaust mods.

For little more you can get programmable chips like the SMT6 (speak to GDI) or a unichip. And that can be taken off and sold easily or reprogrammed for further mods. Wish I had done that but chip was £250 when I got mine.

It may seem like a little more money but any programmable chip will be tailored to the performance and health of your individual car to get the best out of it. Off the shelf chips can never get the best out of your car, and are not much cheaper now.

WHy should he not tell you the cam profile you would be paying to put into your car?

I dont know why nobody gives out cam profiles, most of them use off the shelf cams anyway. And even if its a specific grind, you being the customer are buying a product you deserve to know its full specs.

I would speak to Andy GDI.

You shouldnt have to change your cams to suit the chip, the idea is the chip suits your engine setup!!! crazy!
