Cams on a 172

Anyone had new cams put on there 172.

If so how much and was there a noticeable improvement

andy @ gdi done one a couple of months back do a search mate. with it all set up ans stuff there was about 20bhp increase i think.

Well could be, although Andy quoted 25bhp increase for cams and the chip together

De-cat/magnex/chip/Cams/Viper is that a lot?

well your not going to get much more than 15-20bhp with those mods.

An extra 20 hp on a 1000 kg is a lot imho. Id be happy to gain 20 hp from those mods would see a Cup nearly touching the high 13s.

Piper do a regrind for the 172.



with zorst - cat back and cone filter (not viper) and SMT fueling control...

the MK1 172 we did got a 20 bhp MAX power increase



and about was nearly 170 ft/lbs or torque...

the car was down on power to start with as well (as many of the 172s are)

the owner noticed what he desicribed as a huge difference...... he was very happy with it... (so were we in fact)

Add a flowed head and manifolds to that and 200bhp is your new target.

But i WAS very surprised at the results andy got from cams alone, typically they just loose you some torque low down and dont gain anything in peak power. But either the grinds are not overly wild and work nicely, and that SMT6 is doing a beautiful job of getting the best out of an engine.

with cams and chip and zorst and filter... 21 bhp is about right..... but lets not get carried away with peak power... mid range torque was way up with this package.... so in other words power on the road.... this is also where the SMT helps a huge amount

yup, was complimenting the work, credit where credits due, i was saying that nomally cams really dont work on the std head/manifold.
