Bought a latop for myseldf on my birthday in Aug 2007, was a brand new (i was told) Acer aspire 1640

Dont really use it that much and today i went on it to clear it out, found a load of files in the D: (Laptop has 2 hdd's)
skype setup files, polish to english music files, loads of films, and even pic of the couple who own the laptop on holiday

Files and pics are dated 05/2005!!

So when i bought my new latop from a local pc shop as brand new!, it was actually over 2 years old

Going down there tomorrow

Are you sure it has two HD's and it's not a single HD partitioned in two?

Seems odd for a laptop to have more than one HD.

Either way sounds a bit odd.

May be split in two, even though seems a bit unacceptable

Should i ask for money back, an upgrade or a new laptop?

It doesn't look like that laptop was around in June 2005 so I'd guess that the laptop was "brand new" when you purchased it in August 2007 but the HD inside has been exchanged for whatever reason.

I'd go to the shop but DON'T mention the pictures or movies initially. I'd ask them to check their records and see if there's any possibility they could have supplied a second hand or refurbished laptop. When/If they say that's impossible hit them with the "Oh in that case can you explain why someone else information is on my laptop" and see what their reaction is then.

when they build the new laptop old hard drive or whatever they usually ghost the hard drive image to the hard drive, how the hell would the photos etc get into the d drive? this is the part of the hard disk used for recovery of the OS etc very strange imo.
