Can I have some help on Mac purchasing? Please!

As a request from our MD, he's after two of the new Mac notebooks, presumably the Intel dual-core ones that I'd guess work with Windows domains and Exchange 2003?

He's after a small, portable one at work and one for home that can resemble the dimensions of an aircraft carrier if need be.

Cost isn't really an issue, but I'm loathe to make suggestions about specs of machines I know little about!

Any feedback would be much appreciated guys. The small one only has to connect to our domain, Exchange, a few other apps, etc. The large one for home is purely for eye-candy - widescreen, playing DVDs, i-Tunes, internet browsing etc.

Cheers,
D.

Small and Intel - only real choice is the 15 inch Macbook pro still at the moment.

The macbooks are rumoured to be announced tomorrow, will most likely be a 13" version, although my 15" powerbook is more than portable though and the smallest iBooks were tiny, too small for me.

There's also the 17" macbook pro which would fit the requirement of being a "large laptop" for home.

  Weeman sucks ****
Get the 17". Just been released and is the b****cks. Super quick and the 17" widescreen allows for so much more than the 15, what I have.

Cheers guys. Any recommendations of where to buy them from, or is the local PCW the best option?

John Lewis, you'll get 1 year of john lewis extra warranty too. It'll be the same price too.

  As father and son....
Any particular reason he wants a Mac if hes connecting to 'dows domains and their services at work?

I normally support the local Apple Centre when I purchase.

By the sounds of what he wants, get the 15 inch for work and the 17 inch for his home.

My bloody point exactly!

He's got a Vaio at the moment, yet wants one of these Macs. We've been down this route before with a G4 Powerbook and got our fingers burnt. Looks like I'll be buying asbestos gloves and going in for Round 2. Can't say I'm exactly relishing the prospect. A bit like a life-time Beemer owner being forced to drive a Merc, Gordon Ramsey being forced-fed a Pot Noodle, Bush shaking hands with Bin Laden. You get the picture.... ;)

problem with MD's or managers is once they get an idea in their head its impossible to nudge it out the way in place of a sensible, practical and technologically superior replacement. Problem is your gonna be the bugger on the support end of things and i hate to say it hes making your life a misery :(
