Car is going into garage today

Fixing the niggles from when I bought the car.
Too much travel in brake pedal and brakes not great.
No instrument cluster illumination.
Various bulbs gone.
Investigate hollow rattle at warm idle (I suspect exhaust or dephaser)

This is where I start to find out just how much the previous owner/owners abused the car.
Shouldn't cost too much but will buy a tub of KY just in case

:dapprove:

I'd get to tubs, it's French!!!! My 182 has cost me a load but it's running beautiful now! Well worth it!

Just had the dephaser done on my 172 under warranty luckily enough from the garage i bought it from. It cost them £480 all in

Had a quick word with the garage.
Offside trackrod gone.
Brakes needed bleeding.
A numpty had wired the stereo up so it was shorting out and blowing the fuse for nearside lights and dashboard illumination.
One bolt on the engine cover stripped but they haven't looked at the warm rattle at idle yet.

Interestingly I looked at the last MOT from Dec.
It failed first on nearside lights not working and too much play in offside suspension.
The next day there was an MOT pass with no receipts.
Sounds like it was a "special mates" MOT :dapprove:

My Mrs said that the lights worked fine when we left the seller, but I used the radio on the way home then realised lights were out later on the journey.
It would also explain why I found a couple of "spare" dead fuses kicking round in the car....
Sigh...
Some people...

Lets hope not ;)
Judging by the standard of work over the last couple of years when it says cambelt was done last year... was it really?
Is that why a year later I suspect I have a knackered dephaser pulley.

Oh well, it may not be cheap but this car will be looked after properly by me and restored to it's former glory.
Nothing like a little project to keep life interesting :)
It'll be worth it.

The dephaser pulley goes in connection with the belt not being fitted by a specialist. Does the car sound like a disel? thats the key sign, if its a rattle it may not be it to be honest

It's like a hollow rattling sound and sounds rough as hell.
The revs are fine so is performance - it just sounds nasty.
Only happens when the engine is warm and idling.
The garage I just took it to think it's coming from the cam area and think it might be lifters/ tappets.
They suggested an engine flush and treatment.
I think I'll take it to some specialists.

Sounds the same as what myne was doing to be honest mate, i was told it could be the tappets too. They had to strip the whole engine down to be sure it was the dephaser but its smooth as a peanut now. I hope its not that and its something else as it wasnt a cheap job. Keep us posted!

Well I'm planning on budgeting for a complete belts and dephaser change.
Just means I'm not getting my 15" wheels :(

Bad times. Im tryna save up for some 2118's but theres always something else popping up that needs attention

that's a fucked dephaser - 100%

Here's a video of it.

It's not a nice sound and is distressing for me even on the tinny vid sound from my phone.
The real sound obviously is slightly deeper... but the vid is pretty damn close.

Dephaser?

Oh just for added joy, the brake pedal is spongy (although much better than it was)
So back to the garage tomorrow so they can bleed it again :boring:
