Car making humming or winding sound

My car (Clio 1.5 dci 2002) is making winding/humming noise when taking it out of gear when going more that 25 mph
if you put it in gear the noise stops, It sounds like it is coming from the nearside.
I think I could be a wheel bearing, does anybody know if they are tapered or not.
Any ideas
