Car Sub for home!

  Cupra K1 & Clio 200

Hi,

My friend is having a house party tom night, but he wants more bass from his system. He has a good amp and someone will be on the decks all night. I was jus wondering whether it is safe to connect my sub to his amplifier. Will it blow my sub due to incorrect impedance matching, or will it not be able to power it at all? I have no idea about this, so any help will be much appreciated!! Thanks

car is normally 4 ohms, home is normally 8ohms although some amps will do both 4 and 8 ohms.. if your gonna do it check the ohmage first.

if you lob full range through it its gonna f**k it up.

Its a rockford 2 Ohm DVC, so i will have to see if my friends amp is advanced enough to have a crossover and adjustable ohmage. Dont think the voltage will have much to do with it surely? You are only sending a voltage signal through to the magnets, if the voltage signal is the same as the signal from the car amp, then i cant see the problem. But to be sure, i will have to check.

2 Ohm will work but at a set point ( which I cant tell you as I dont know ) you will start to cause damage to the coil!

Also, without a serious cross over you will send signal which will interfere with the bass signal and cause the cone to distort!

works for my mate. Hes had 2 pioneer subs hooked up for well over a year and it seams fine. Bass isnt mind blowing as his amp isnt that powerful but it make a big difference. He also lobs them in the back of his cousins car every now and then and they work fine.

It will work but wont sound good! for it to sound half decent you will need an amp that is capible of running on 2-4 ohms. car subs are designed to run on car amps!

Most home or club subs have crossovers on them which have a threshold of up to or around 500hz.

Your car sub will most probably not have a crossover in it that is why on car amps they have a low pass filter.

hope this helps

Right this is the truth and real. You CAN use car subs on home amps. However your need to match the impendence. If his amp can run at 4ohms then your sorted, just wire you sub to show the amp 4 ohms. If the amp can not run at 4 ohms you need to use more subs to show the amp a higher load.

Also you need a crossover so you dont feck the sub

your amp is only stable at 8 ohms! if you wire a 2ohm dvc sub - it will show 4ohms - double output of amp - it will overheat and die - after a few hours - i learnt the hard way - fortunatly i had an amp from richer sounds and it came with supercare!!

Well iv got 2 10" subs under my bed in my bedroom wired up 2 my stereo. Ive had them wired up for about 2 years and they still work fine now as they did when i first put them in! sounds well good!

Yes they will work!! But will be sh*t quality n could cause your subs damage!!

Volts aint got nowt to do with it!!

^^ as smokey says volts got nothin to do wiv it. most home amps are 6 or 8 ohms, so aslong as the amp is seein a load of more than 6 ohms then it will work fine. try and stay as close to the rated impedance of the amp as possible as the higher the impedence then the harder the amp has to work and resultin in less power to ur subs
