Car won’t start :(

Hi all,

Had the aa out this morning for my 182 that won’t start. Turns over but won’t fire. Mechanic doesn’t think it’s fuel as no ignition after squirting into the air box. My spark plugs are new and no codes or immobiliser related things. Anyone had similar? I’m thinking power to the spark plugs but I’m not a mechanic just after an idea of how big of a bill to expect 😬

Yep this’ll be the culprit, fortunately it’s a cheap and easy fix.

Cheers all. No the rev gauge goes to 0 when it cranks and stays there. will it wander about if it’s that sensor? Thanks for the

Replies trying to work out if a mobile mechanic can sort it or I need to pay to get it towed 😢

Get/ask that AA guy leave the car there and to take you to Eurocarparts, buy the part and go back to the car and get him to fit it.

That is exactly what my guy offered to do for me but I had a spare cps at home so got it towed back instead, but the offer was there from him.

Try giving the wiring a wiggle. Sometimes it’s just the wiring. If not it’s still a simple two bolt job.

Thanks all sounds like that’s the culprit then? Unfortunately this was last night and he wanted to (understandably) clock off. Appreciate that I’ll see if I can get a mobile mechanic out and sort it rather than having to tow it.

Also the AA guy should have plugged his obd reader in to confirm that’s the issue.

If you’re lucky, he did that to mine for it to fail less than 30 second later leaving me stranded in the middle of a junction, fortunately he was following me so helped me get it to a side street.

Not sure if the 182 comes with the updated CPS, but it’s really an easy fix and shouldn’t need a mechanic to sort, it’s literally a 20 min job of taking the airbox out, removing the two 13mm bolts from cps which is situated above the gearbox under a water pipe, removing and unplugging the sensor and refitting the new one, putting back together is the reverse of the removal.

Yeah seemed like he would have told me , where having a good chat about it and seemed a sound guy. He did say he reckoned distributer or something related to that. Thought I’d chance it on here if anyone had similar. Appreciate the replies

Sounds like your AA guy is an older fella and used to work on 80’s cars before as new cars don’t have distributors.

ha I think I probably got that wrong then as you can tell I’m not too clued up on this. Is there a chance it wouldn’t have thrown up a fault code if it failed. As he didn’t say there were any faults detected when he plugged it in.
