car wont start...

  Low!
MOT was due this morning, went to take.it and it won't start.

There is a clicking noise in the engine bay with the ignition turned on..

Changed the battery and its exactly the same.

The stop light is on and the battery light flickering.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a stuck starter motor solenoid. If you can bump start it then that's your best option. If not, try rocking the car back and forth in-gear which should turn the starter motor a little and un-jam it.

I reckon Starter Motor too, mine has gone yesterday morning, Recovery tried to jump start me and it didnt work and I have enough voltage in the battery. You can try giving it a wack with something long as the starter motor is in right a pig of a place, its down the back of the block, underneath the manifold towards the gearbox side. There's 3 bolts that hold the starter motor to the block and a white wire with a spade connector on the end, sometimes if that is dirty or not on correctly the car won't start, so it may be worth having a look at the wire first.

I've just been quoted £180 + Vat to have a new one supplied and fitted.

It does sound like the starter motor, but if not it could be the TDC sensor which needs either cleaning or replacing.

It'll turn over with TDC, it just won't fire. So it's not that.

It could only be the starter, really. Solenoid being stuck is the best guess.

Be thankful that it stuck whilst the car wasn't running. lol

Turned out to be the earthing wire, no idea exactly what the local auto electrician sorted it..

Thanks for the ideas though :)
