car wont start :/

I have a Y reg clio mk2 ph2 and whan i turn the key there is a clicking from a relay under the bonnet and the battery and engine light flicker, when i managed to start it by rolling it down my road the electrical fault indicator was on, i checked all the fuses, cleaned the battery connections, charged the battery and bashed the starter motor...but still the same...
Any ideas?

have you checked the connections on the started motor itself ?
