Car wont start!!!

dad got up this morning about half 8, moved my car off the drive so my mum can get out, and it worked fine, no probs.

half hour later, i go to get in and go 2 college, and the f**ker wont start!

theres nowt wrong with the battery or electrics or owt.

ive got a mk1 ph1 1.2, and basically, when i start it normally, its goes, chug chug chug chug vrooom, and now theres no noise at all, just a little whinging sound from a cable if i open the bonnet up.

anyone got any ideas?!?!?!

Sounds like there is to me. check the starter and the battery again.

wot am i sposed 2 be checking??

the electrics are fine, stereo, lights, dash, all work, and like i said, my dad drove it fine half hour before i tried it!

Put it in gear, ignition off, handbrake off, and rock it forwards to turn the engine a little. Could be that the starter motor isnt engaging the flywheel.

to be honest mate, im a total novice, i dont know what cables and wires to look for, but yes, the battery is fine, and it drove perfectly 30mins before hand

If the only thing you get when turning the key is a click it sounds like a faulty starter.

Hitting it with a hammer is the same as rocking it backwards and forwards, sounds like starter could be jammed as youre hearing a buzzing.

The fact it started fine 30 mins before hand is irrelevant and does not mean the electrics are ok.

Try bump starting it.

ah right, i was under the assumption that if my lights, stereo, dash indicators etc all worked fine, then the electrics were fine

Just a bit of advice, DONT Bump start it, not unless you want to risk unburnt fuel contaminating the Catalytic convertor and then having to shell out ££££s on a new 1 as well as whatever problem is.

think ot was just the alternator/starter motor, or wotever, can these be affected by the heat or anything? just a though, cos its been f**kin red hot, and its been sat on the drive.

if its dodgy it needs doin, so ill get it sorted tomorrow

Hey, this may or may not be useful to you, but I had a similar problem with starts (at times)

When I took it to BB performance they reckon its the Ignition barrel.

Try that.
