Cavity for exhaust in bumper

I hoping to get a s/s cat back with twin4" ovals, the only thing is my 172 does not have a cavity for the pipes, so I think it will look rather strange sitting just underneath the back bumper. If I look at shaping the bumper to the profile of the tailpipes, what is the best way of doing this? Is it simply a case of marking out, then cutting with a coping saw ( circular blade that can cut round corners ) then sand it down to get a smooth finish?

Thanks
