cd player wont play cds

my standard clio cd player stopped working, the radio works fine but when you load a cd it reads error so i bought another standardcd player from ebay and it does exactly the same
any ideas or could it just be a coincidence that both are humped
i have 02 172

have you tried a CD head cleaner? And are you trying the same disc? Some disc formats are not compatible with all CD players, so it could be the CD itself.
Failing that, its probably a coincidence.

no havent tried a cleaner tbh forgot they existed lol tried a few cds and no difference dont want to buy another or have to use a aftermarket headunit till everything is ruled out

172's have CD changers IIRC, so does it work in the changer (if you have one). If so then its deffo the lens on the head unit.

CD lens cleaners are only about £3 on ebay. Worth a punt.
