CDI Cat C Value

Hi guys.

Went to look at a 02 Clio CDI 65 yesterday that a "friend" is selling. It's a 3 door, 82k with no history. Has recently had over 1k spent on servicing alloys etc. Thought it was a bargain at £1700. Did a data check last night to find it was a Cat C write off in Feb 06  Nice of him to tell me eh?! Especially how he knows that it is for my wife and kid to run about in

How much do you think it's worth?

Thanks.

CDI? You mean DCI!

Sorry, I meant DCI (obviously)
I was thinking the same s4lkk, thanks. He's expecting me to pick it up tonight, just wanted to make sure. I'll offer him 1k and give him a slap for not telling me!

Nothing, as i would never touch any CAT car.

Don't buy it..................get a good one instead.

Your going to put your family in a writeoff, you want your head looking at

cat c is very bad damage, i'd say about £1200, because you will struggle to sell it if you ever tried
Yet another misinformed person. Cat C doesn't always mean 'very bad damage' I've seen cat C cars written off with just dents!

Also to everyone that will be saying 'don't buy it' would you drive around in a car that was repaired by an insurance company....of course you would, Theres no difference

As long as its been repaired properly and the price reflected it I can't see a problem. Its when its been bodged that you walk.

hopefully once you let him know wot you know he will come clean and tell you want happened.......its quiet easy to have a crash and there be 3-4k worth of damage and it just mainly be body work. (speaking from experience!:dapprove: )

so as long as the job is good and the crash werent that bad go for it

As long as the repairs good and theres nothing else wrong with it go for it.

Ive had loads of cat c and d cars and will buy them again.

I almost shelled out £8000 for a 2002 TT roadster last week and that was cat D , stolen recovered and just needed keys.

If he has the V5 which obviously he should, point out to him section 3 Special Notes and "Substantially repaired and/or accident damaged; identity checked on blah"

the level of the damage will vary on when it was classfied as a CatC.

Cat is related to cost of damage as well as level.

i.e a new DCi with CatC damage might have 6ks worth, an older one, may only have 1.5k as it related to the cars value.

Id say 1.2-1.5k is it money.

people on here really are clueless... if the repair is good then 1700 is a fair price imo.... cat C can be fairly minor damage or major, as above just depends on the level or repair.....

If he knows it's recorded & you ask him if it is & he says no, that's illegal on his part.

I personally wouldn't touch it. I know that people get good bargains from buying cat d etc, but it's not my thing.

As long as it has pics of the repair and damage,i would'nt hesitate on buying a cat c car.Look at tvr.The whole front end of a tuscan is one piece. Its 3k from a dealer. So as long as the car does'nt need jigging you've got a lovely new TVR,with no recognition it ever happened
