changing engine without changing ins!

  E55, KitCar & '85 Quattro

Is this at all possible. im not thinking of doing it, but i was just wondering then...

If you dropped the 2.0l engine into my 1.4 04, and it fits nicely, and u have all the pipe work done nicely and neatly as it is on the 1.4, and then put the 1.4 cover back on, how wud they ever know, unless they looked for engine no.s ect, in the event of a bad crash where they looked under the bonnet?

Just wondering!!!!

Would the 1.4 engine cover fit over the 2.0? Also remember theres a little more than just the engine youd need to change for that type of change over.

hmm, but think, the 172 engine bay doenst look that much more full than the one in a 1.4 16v. 1.2 is a bit smaller though. (especially the 2004 1.2 16v! looks like a BBQ!!!)

Also, how does the engine differ, do they get the extra 600cc by longer pistons? or wider ones too? if its just longer then the engine should just sit a little lower and look the same from above

true- but u have to have insurance by law. (even though they may not pay out!)

dink- nah kits going well, or else the question wud be- can u fit a 2.0l rover k-series engine into a clio!!!!!

Thought they were totally different engines.

insurers are getting more wiser with engine conversions etc, and engine mods in general, such as chipping.

Anything thatll get them out of having to pay for your claim.

1 slight problem thou, youd have a totally different inlet plenum to the 1.4

Your really hoping this will be the case arent you? ;) lol

I reckon that theyll look obviously different so I dont reckon youll get away with it.

That and the fact that if an insurance assessor drives if after you have a prang then he will kind of suspect that its not standard when he takes off up the road like his hairs on fire... lol :p

Yeah it does mate, my gf has an 04 1.2 16v......and the 1.4 has a little more kick mid range so it is a little faster.

Not a chance, now if you could find a block that would fit stright onot the gearbox and head of the 1.4 you have then you would be laughing, and then think about cams, headwork etc.....thats my plan, but not with a 1.4

would an insurance company ever open up the head to check for cams flow work, what about lightened and balanced crack etc , surely they cant be arsed ???

wouldnt be able to have blatent vernier pullys though i suppose, bit of a giveaway

Youre joking right?

The bloke from the insurance company would have to be a complete muppet! These people see every sort of car you could imagine! Trust me they would notice!!

I work for an insurance company btw.

I wouldnt want a 2.0 in a 1.2 chassis.

1.2 chassis is the same as the 2.0 chassis, the difference is whats bolted to the chassis
