Changing oil and filter on 1.2 16v, easy job?

Just would like to know if anyones carried out this task, will be doing mine later today and the car has never had a service, so I imagine the oil will be horrible and mucky. Bloke at work suggested using an additive with the new oil because it has never had a service. Can anyone enlighten me?

P.S It's a Sept 2003 1.2 16v with 31500 on the clock.

Easy job, use a Haynes manual if ur not to confident.

I know don't! 1st car hasn't been respected, pi**ed it up the wall instead of paying for a service!! Haven't got access to a haynes manual right now but think I got it.

What do you reckon on the oil additives?

i used forte oil treatment when i do mine....
does clean the crank out lovely..

oh and the actual change is a piece of piss.
u need a sqaure key to undo the sump....

oil additive such as slick 50 or something.....? Dont bother

Just stick soem decent oil in there and change it sooner.


You can get engine oil flush before you change it, will get all the gunk out (follow instructions carefully)

Other then that dont stick anything else in.

So one says do, one says don't.... Or is treatment and additive different?What do I do? Is a square key easy to get hold of?

Thanks for help lads, needs doing because my little sis will be using it soon and I want it safe but haven't got the cash for a proper service at the mo.

the forte oil treatment is basicly the engine flush
Halfords normally keep the Wynns one in stock and also a halfords own brand i beleive.

(you use it before changing oil)

IE, helps clear the gunk out before putting fresh stuff in.


Square sump key found at most Halfords stores.
