Changing wheels around...

For those of you who have the same tyres all round, I'm curious to know how many of you swap your wheels around e.g. back to font to ensure even tyre wear? If so how often do you do it?

My fronts don't have much life left and I was thinking of swapping them around with the rears which have loads of tread left...I'm thinking this way I could delay the cost of 2 new tyres cos got to fork out for the 36k service with new pads next week

Your best tyres should be on the back, as they help you get more grip and there's less chance of spining the back end.

Try look at one of the tyre website as they have done a clip, and prove it.

You should always have the best tyres on the rear . If you brake hard , especially in the wet , with good front tyres , they will grip and the rears won't , thus the back will slide and want to overtake the front end .

Trust me , i've experienced this , lol

I always move my rears to the front and put the new ones on the back .

I put brand new tyres on the fron last week, but I know they dont grip as well as the rears, plus they are 195 width and my rears are 205. I think I have found a nice balance of front and rear grip.

i dont usually swap but i am this time round. reason being i want the widest possible 4 tyres next time. stepping from 195 to possibly 215 (dont personally know if its possible on standard 172 alloys on a FF.)

Only need to buy 2 new tyres at a time with a FWD car, 2 front shagged ones go in the bin, part worn rears go to the front and new ones on the rear.

repeat over and over...

Yeah right . So he read the link . The link states new tyres to the rear . He said he " won't " be swapping the rears to the front anymore ! Thats the only way to do it , rears to the front and new ones on the back , unless your gonna renew them all round .

215 can be done fine. I have them on mine.

I do it the other way around whenever I rotate.

The front tyres do all of your steering, accelerating and braking. I like to know that if I ask them to be somewhere or do something they will, without fail.

The cars are balanced towards the front quite heavily anyway, so a slight difference in grip front to rear isn't going to make that much difference overall.

I tend to go the same way as you Mark. I always put new rubber on the front and always have done without any ghastly consequences.

Trust me Mark it does make a difference . If your rears are in poor condition and you brake hard in the wet , the fronts will grip , your rears won't therefore your back end will want to overtake the front end . I've experienced this , bit of an arse twitching moment to say the least , lol .

If your rear tyres are in good condition , plenty of tread left then its ok to put the new ones on the front .

My tyres have done just over 8k miles ( fronts and rears from new ) .The fronts need renewing now , by my reckoning the rears have a good 5k left in em .So putting the rears on the front will give me roughly 13k out of them in total . This way your not changing your tyres as often .

If i were to put the new ones on the front and only got around 8k out of them , the rears would want changing not soon after .

I'm lucky, my Cup has the usual low rear brake effort, so locked rears has never been a problem.

It does move about on the brakes though, always has.

I change my tyres over to try and time them needing to be changed all at the same time. Just prefer to have tread as similar as possible and also find replacing 4 tyres at once more convenient than changing two tyres twice as often.

My car wiggles it's ass when I brake REALLY heavily. Nothing that has ever worried me but it's noticable.

Yeah this is what I was refering to in my original post - changing the tyres round to ensure even wear on all tyres. Anyone else do this?
