Cheap or free engine mods

  Kangoo 182
Ok I know the title of thwart sounds odd but I wondered if any peeps know of cheap or free ways to improve engine a performance?

i know you can remove air con and pas quite cheaply, is there anything else that can be done?

You can switch off the aircon using a button in the car, thats completely free and will reduce its drag from a couple of BHP down to essentially nothing.

I'm removing my air con and doing the epas conversion at the mo, so hopefully will rev up abit better. Have been toying with removing xenons and replacing with standard/cup lights.

The reason for swapping lights is weight saving and I know it's not much but as tesco say, every little helps.

as for music, I only use iPod and headphones :p

If you hold the steering wheel straight the PAS does almost nothing, even when "flat out" steering to parallel park its only a tiny amount of horsepower, and if the aircon is turned off it does almost nothing in terms of drag.

So if you want to know what it will "rev up" like after, it will be almost exactly as it is now when the aircon is off and you are going straight.

The only time it will make a decent amount more power than it does now, is while parallel parking with the aircon on.

The weight saving is quite a significant one though, and its from in front of the front axle, so thats a better reason to do it, as is the decreased chance of belt failure.

Weight difference for non xenons must be about equivalent to only wearing one show while driving or having half a litre less fuel in the tank?

Judging by your name 'Mr Beardo' id get shaving that beard! might save a little bit of weight? Or just go to the toilet beforehand and make sure your as light as you can be?

  RB 182 cup
Take the rear seats, spare wheel and whatever else out the back. More noise, better mpg, less weight. Just better at the cost of no back seats.

  Fiesta ST2 MP215
Race grade fuel, Chop the exhaust off altogether before Cat, just have the manifold hanging off and direct air feed with no filter, then strip everything off the car.

^^^ Must read more..... I suppose suspension geometry doesn't come under engine mods but mehhh it will have more of an affect than 10-20bhp will.
