Cheaper insurance?

  Renault Clio
I'm not really fussed about this but since there's a forum to talk about insurance I just thought I'd ask. I was wondering if I'm paying too much for my insurance. I'm paying £1300 per year with Admiral. My dad is the main driver of the vehicle and it's registered in his name. I'm an additional driver and I'm 17. The car is a 53 plate Dynamique with no modifications declared (there isn't any to declare yet). Girls at school are paying like £400-600 to insure their crappy Puntos and KAs. Just seems like a bit of a rip off to be honest. It would be a lot easier if we were only paying £400-600 a year.

Have you rang around other companies?

I looked on comparethemarket.com and Admiral was the cheapest.

... why do I get the feeling I'm about to be told I shouldn't have looked on comparethemarket.com :rasp:

To be honest your 17. Insurance is always going to cost you a premium. Once you have a few years under your belt, it will be greatly reduced.

And as you say you havnt passed your tesy as yet. I dont think its to bad for your age and no licence

Yeah, everyone keeps saying that. That doesn't make it any easier to pay now though :p Just seems really unfair that other people get to pay £400 whilst I (and obviously many others) have to pay triple that.

Punto's and Ka's in question probably lower insurance group, older so lesser value than your 53 plater? and then there's the ovary factor. Which I agree is the unfair part, in the past I would agree that men carried a bigger liability on the road. However now just as many women drive like aggressive c*nts too. I've been cut up about 8 times in the last three weeks on the way to work and every single time it was by a woman.

More named drivers on your policy with experience the better so if your insurer will let you add your mum and dad as named drivers, if they have years without accidents and clean licences that will help reduce the cost of your insurance.

It used to be a massive difference if you were a named driver but this is illegal and i think insurance companies have caught up with it and its not much more to go on your own.I paid £800 on my mums when i started and it would have been well over 2k

I paid £809 when I was learning to drive with my Dynamique as a named driver, with Quinn-Direct. Now I've passed on my own TPF+T cover it's £1500 lol :dapprove:
