Chip To Around 150bhp?

Car  03 Clio 1.6 16v Dynamique
Chaps,

What kind of chips/engine mods are out there to take my 1.6 Dynamqiue up to around 150 bhp, or there abouts, and how badly would it affect MPG? Getting around 37 at best with it standard, yay! lol

What kind of prices fitted am I looking at. Just been really curious to see what Renault Tuning there is out there...:approve:

Many thanks,

Pete.

Probably cost you more than the car is worth in reality.

I'm sure Fred, Ben, Andy or someone will be along shortly with a more accurate answer though.

There will be no "chip" that really helps you.

You could get a decent exhuast, decat, good induction, etc.

But Renaults don't respond "that" well to air flow mods really.

Probably the best VFM would be to source a 172 / 182 engine and dump that in, but that's a bit of a project.

MPG depends how you drive but you'd need to spend a bit to get 150hp out.
Most lilly the best value is cams manifold work exhaust IK maybe head work total bill is £3k ish.

A 172 transplant is a better way to do about it. £1.5k+vat for the parts and assuming you find a fgarage the'll charge about between £500 and 1k for the work then say £500 on a new clutch etc. You can do it yourself you've basically got to strip the whole car wiring out and swop with a 172 looms.

anyone tried one of those manifolds on k-tecs website, reckon one of those with a de-cat and system mite be alright.

A couple of loose mates have taken their Coopers with around 120 brake [Std afaik] up to like 200bhp + with re-mapping and an ECU or eqivalent chip somehow, and I have no idea of price or the realism of this.

Is it just that BMW engines are much better for this, or is it proper porkies and all the best they could do is a smart exhaust/intercooler that will add 30bhp at best topps?
Would there be a Clio alternative that does the same thing?

Thanks,

Pete.

Your mates obviously LIE!

If its a cooper S its possible they could get to 200bhp. but they have superchargers to get them to that kind of power and start at 170bhp.

PMSL. FFS.

I thought maybe the world might have been becoming more educated with regards to the tuning of cars. Yet they just keep coming and coming.

K+N = 10 bhp
Exhaust = 10 bhp
Chip = 30 bhp

Bingo! 150 bhp! :rolleyes:

lol, fairplay, in that case will be Cooper S then. As I said, these were just loose comments and buddys of a buddy, and I was aware that even the best exhausts will only add 20brake or so.
Interesting subject though.

Cheers chaps,

Pete.

I would have thought it impossible to get 150bhp from a 1.6 without serious money being spent!

I enquired about a remap and it would add around 5bhp.

think the mini one and cooper engines are the same and with ecu work the one can have the same if not more bhp like from 90bhp to 120bhp!!!
