chipped clio owners

has anyone out there chipped their mk2 facelift clios? thinkin bout it, especially with our cliosport discount, bout wondering if the increases are as they reckon they are on the superchip website.

cheers people, mike

There will probably be a few horse power that a chip can give a N/A petrol engine but not many.

Somone on this forum chipped there 172 and it didnt give many more hp.

So a 1.6 will give even less.

Turbos are the only cars which make big gains as the boost can be turned up which means more air so more power OTBE.

N/A petrols have no extra boost avialiable.

The best option I would imagine is either a new engine or turbo.

I thought a chip only improved the drivability of the car!

i.e. smoother power delivery making it easier to drive!

Ive superchipped my cup, and I posted some data from a rolling road session on here about 10 days ago; it only made 167bhp, but the tests were done in 91 degrees F, ie rather hot.

I had two replies from peeps on that post suggesting that losses due to heat could be as much as 14bhp on a 172 engine, in which case my cup could now be making 181bhp on a nice cool day. Which would be great, but Ive no way of telling until the cooler weather comes in the autumn.

More impressive, though, is the gain in torque that the superchip has brought. Cups are supposed to chuck out 147 (or is it 149?) lb ft of torque; even in 91F my cup was giving 154, so in cooler wheaher it could perhaps be 160-165ish - thats a serious increase. Again, Ill have to wait until I can prove it though.

The download chips from a portable laptop dont work - its a rip off. You may see a couple of hp gain but it aint noticable and for £230.00 it should be. Save your money and buy an R-sport ECU. These are programmed with different settings than a standard ECU and the power increase is noticable and they dont cost much more - ASK timmo with the cup 172 ( 14.0 -- 100 mph qtr mile ) says it all really.

1.5 dci turbo upgrade will work and it is noticable.

so sorry, where can i find out about this new ECU? wana do somethin engine-wise but theres sod all that is out my clio yet! unless someone can help me out there aswell!?

cheers, mike

whats the difference between the R-sport one and a superchip one? can we get discounts on R-sport ones? also is there a website i can look on about it?

mike when i asked Renault they said beleive it or not that the RS chip will make the warranty invalid even if its fitted by them..... other peeps will tell you different, just be careful that your dealer can give you a def answer, and is prepared to give you it on paper...
