I got to know Chi quite well. I had a good and cheap Trophy and he wanted it. I wanted another FRP.

He picked me up. Paid me, drove me to the FRP and I bought it. Never looked back.

Nice fella and he told me later the timing was out on the Trophy, I had it a short period and belts were already done but a respected specialist. Think it was down on power.

Remember that thing, he specialises in locksmith did he not?

Does anyone actually have an answer as to why he kept them the way he did or why he never sold them off and kept a couple ?

Just seems crazy to off load 13 clios with some good decent parts on them.

Not with 13 cars we haven't lol

I have a little experience - non trader just in it for s***s and giggles and i've been up to 14 cars owned at once, though that was a few years back. I have settled down to 5 keepers and one or two in and out ad-hoc now. I can also keep everything at home, so I don't pay for storage.

First off - storage. It costs a LOT of money for space to keep a lot of cars and parts. When you're not bringing any money in from it like a trader does (or, very little anyway) it's a huge outlay/financial strain. It ended up in me running up a 4-figure bill in lockup rental. Gets pretty stressful. Lockup garages are around £50/m at best, each, and a unit of that size you're waaay into 4-figures a month plus rates and utilities.
Second up - time. Pretty obvious. You end up splitting out your time and it feels like you make minimal progress.
Also, cost to run them all. All the parts, MOT's, Road tax (I currently shell out £72/m for 3 cars) and Insurance is murder (remember you can only use NCB once). I had a trade policy 2003-2017 but that was getting cripplingly expensive and I had to give it up, couldnt justify the cost.

In the end it just hit a point where i'd had it, and something had to give. I cherry picked about 5% of the best parts from my stash (mostly 21 Turbo and R9/11 Turbo stuff) and the rest got scrapped off. I couldn't even be there when it was cleared out, I just left the doors open and drove away.
I also scrapped a R19TD, a 21 Turbo shell, another 21 Turbo shell (crashed), a Calibra, I gave away an old Scimitar that i'd inherited with one of the lockups. I gave away (for scrap) 6 21 Turbo bottom ends in various states, several old heads...the list goes on. It just hit the point where enough was enough.

I sold the 11 Turbo, the other 2 were scrapped.

I'd say the pics about are around 50% of the total I threw in the bin. In my head it's like a switch flipped, and my stash went from being a collection of precious things to a ball and chain.

At least he hasnt said its a "built" engine, which seems to be the latest buzzword amongst all the instagram/youtube numpties.

I mean, all engines are built, otherwise they wouldn't run. The f**k is up with these c***s.

Lightened and balanced used to be the buzz back in my Ford RS days. No c**t could ever give you a receipt for the work though. "yOu cAn TeLL whEn iT ReVS uP tHo"

This is what my mrs imagines when I talk about my garage!

It's nowhere near as bad tbh

tb it can snowball easily, i'm only on 4 cars and about 3 sheds of bits but i'm really looking forward to putting the 4th car back together and then just clearing everything else out. I keep telling myself the hoarding is just to make sure I have all the bits to complete the 4 I have.

so the proof in the pudding will be in the eating when number 4 is back on the road and i'm in tears chucking crap on ebay or into a skip.....

I said this to myself this year

4 Cars deep, 2 garages and 1 shed full of parts. I'd rather have the money in my account now, yes I make money on everything I buy but stacking 10 sets of wheels along the back of the garage wall is a bit much now. I'd rather put the car in there so I can work on it...

But then I say to myself "Just extend the garage and have the best of both worlds" and continue to hoard parts like a daft motherfucker

of course what will actually happen is i'll keep stashing stuff, won't finish number 4 and buy a 5th 'to run about in over summer, you know not for long' and this time next year i'll re-write exactly the same post but with 'i'm only 5 cars and 4 sheds full in'

I built myself a huge garage after the big clearout, so big in fact I was sure i'd have all the space i'd ever need.

So anyway, it's full now....

and i've built extra storage under the floor in my living room, with access trapdoors. I mean, wasted space otherwise right?

tbh probably in her best interest.....otherwise the floor itself would be swamped in parts...lmao

your mrs must be very understanding for you to rip up the living room floor
She understands it from her own house yeah :p i'm getting all of this done before she moves in and puts the brakes on haha.

To be fair she did question the bucket seats and 2 sets of wheels in my bedroom cupboard but I cleared her a drawer for some weekend stuff and gave her a slot for her toothbrush so she got over it :) they will be gone before she moves in. Probably.
