Chi's Clio Collection

Does anyone actually have an answer as to why he kept them the way he did or why he never sold them off and kept a couple ?

Just seems crazy to off load 13 clios with some good decent parts on them.

Probably a case of buying stuff and no panic to recoup money. Or rather not needing too.

Then losing interest and just move on without the hassle of selling

i remember going to chis to look at a cup in 2016 it must have been, surprised to see he still has the mazda 3 mps mind

I met Chi at EFi once, spoke to him a lot on here and FB nice chap. I’ve always wondered what happened, he was quite lively on here until he broke his back in a Clio! He was always a fan of my Clio Turbo too..

He sounds like a decent bloke. He's either woke up one morning and realised he needs to sort his hoarding out or something drastic has happened to trigger the big clear out he seems to be having. I hope its nothing bad that's set this off.

I remember him saying he had a 'bit of an accident' in one of his Clio's, so I thought he'd had a bit of shunt and felt a bit tender from getting knocked about, then he shared a couple of photos of it, the Clio was wrapped round a lamp post like a Banana and he was in a full body cast in hospital having broke his back, which was where he was messaging us from, we have very different definitions of what 'a bit of an accident' was.

Nice bloke, I miss him he was fun.

Messaged him last night, I think he’s had enough of loosing money. He said he’s the worst car dealer.. bought them all cheap, waiting for prices to rise whilst spending 20k on storage, then sell them for a loss [emoji23][emoji23]

Doesn’t seem too bothered, still keeping a load of nice stuff

Yeah, paying for storage is the killer Id imagine. Hopefully he had a claim on their insurance for the roof though? Think I’d still be mad enough to jet wash those seats off and look (prob bleached)

The irony is I think the prices maybe on the move on them recently. I’ve noticed a lack of sub £1k deals.

I do say to people (that reminisce about 205/5gtt etc) that the 172/82 is a much better car & wouldn’t be a bad idea if you want a car today that’s cheap and will be expensive in years to come to grab a nice one.

Not sure how accurate the ‘how many left’ site is but there were supposedly 7000 R5GTT’s on the road at peak as opposed to 5000 182’s and only 2000 172 cups (don’t know the normal 172 numbers?)

I’m old enough to remember when the 5’s were new and wanted one back in the day but they were always knackered when a few years old in my budget. Had 205’s but the clio is a better car all round, no reason why they won’t be a classic especially with the likes of some of the motoring journalists owning them even.

The only negative for value (which is actually a positive for the car) is the cars are generally very reliable and don’t rust as bad as the older stuff so they last longer meaning they won’t get as scarce.

That was a decent wee video, remember chi too. Lots of these folk just seem to disappear.

Some nice metal in there though, none seem to be standard mind!

3k! No mention of service history and looks w**k.

Mileage isn’t everything.

Hate to think of the state of the fluids if its been sat for months / years without even being turned over.

There is no service history as stated and then all the belts are guaranteed to need done along with anything else that you find.
Bushes, Springs, Tyres, Wheels and anything else you find.

Mileage might not be everything and we all know that but everyone wants as low mileage as possible

Belts, oil change, plugs, coolant change, wheel refurb, new tyres maybe, as been sat for 3 years, no mot and it needs bodywork and he wants 3k.

I mean, I love a money pit but you could be balls deep in that before you know it.

But it’s a cup!!!

As you say though, needs a fair bit of money spending.

I know I’m a bit of a chav but I’d have to do something about the 4x4 ride height as well.

This has made me feel good about my 172 now! dam site tidier than those even if it's a bit rough around the edges. Dont get 'cup tax' either, more were made than any other colour 172 and you get crapper spec
