Claying

  Ultra Red Megane 225
Ive just bought a clay bar kit, and haven't used one before. Any tricks or tips when using?

Also ive got one of those felxi water blades which I use quite a lot, noticed today a couple of gay surface scratches on the bonnet that need to be removed. any recommendations on a good product to use??

Any help very much appreciated.

Pics will of course be posted when done.

Split the bar into 3, make sure the clay is warm and soft. If you drop it - bin it. Use plenty of the lube and knead the clay to give it a clean side for each pass. Only rub lightly.

Use the clay to do the glass and wheels after you have finished the paint.

Ditch the flexi blade IMO - working by hand to remove the scratches will be hard work - try Carlack Scratch Remover or Meguiars Scratch X.

Flexi blade's are ok imo, keep them in a warm bucket so it's soft, make sure it's clean, i use it on the glass and the roof. Very lightly!

Clay is something i'm no a huge fan of, only done mine once, but it is constructive, as above no need for fancy lubes, just a decent concentration shampoo and warm water. It's not something that benefits from pushin harder too, doesn't make sod all difference.

Don't we shocked if the car looks a mess after. Will be silky to feel, but more offen than not it will look worse.

Now you've got to polish, seal and wax! :) - It's all apart of a bigger picture.

Yeap they always look worse after claying - despite the threads on here - "look how shiny my car is after claying !"

Ok whats the next step then? I have various waxes all part of a detailing kit that was given to me, but theres still that extra something needed imo.

Im a bit of a novice
