Clear engine management light

My car had a misfire the other day which put the car in limp mode. I restarted the engine and it was fine however the engine light is still on. When it did this some time last year the light went off after a while. Does anyone know how long it takes to go off or how to clear it without it being plugged in? It normally wouldn't be a problem but im going to see about part ex'in the car tomorrow and an engine management light doesn't look too good!

Cheers

The error code is written to memory - removing the battery will not clear it. If however the issue has been resolved *some* faults will allow the MIL to self-extinguish after 3 fault free running cylces of the engine though the code will remain in memory as a historic event. I don't know if a coilpack/missfire is covered by this type of self diagnosis but I suspect it would cost you no more than £5 for someone with any kind of equipment to kill the lamp for you.Mick
